2014 Summer Intern: Audit Services

A high performing professional (graduate and bachelor level student) who is looking for an opportunity to expand their knowledge and skill sets in a variety of areas within the energy and energy-related industry. This individual will spend up to a semester (or summer) as an intern in the Audit Services Department to acquaint themselves with Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and its main subsidiary, Arizona Public Service (APS). The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills and the candidate should have an understanding of risk and the ability to design and perform audit procedures. The individual will be expected to assist in a variety of assignments within the Audit Services Department and be a strong team player. This position will be a paid internship and requires minimal travel.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

Responsibilities in the Audit Services Department will include audit planning, review of client processes and systems of internal controls, conduct audit procedures to independently verify the effectiveness of the design or operation of the client’s processes and systems of internal controls, and communicate the results of audits to appropriate level of Company management.

The Intern duties may include the following:

- Under general supervision, assist in planning and conducting routine audits and reviews to provide an independent verification and evaluation of the Company's operations.

- Critically assess routine issues and formulate recommendations to properly safeguard Company assets and improve operations.

- Interact with lead auditors and managers to clearly communicate audit issues and/or concerns.

- Maintain a positive attitude and an even temperament to promote teamwork and cooperation.

- Comply with GAAP, GAAS, IIA standards and Company procedures to ensure objectivity, independence and professionalism of audits.

- Under the direction of senior auditors, may interview management and staff of the auditees to learn their processes and formulate risk assessments. Document processes in a flowchart or written report, and confirm understanding with the auditee.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will be pursuing a bachelor or graduate degree within one of the disciplines related to accounting, auditing, finance, or information systems from an accredited college/university and is enrolled fulltime. Must possess good academic aptitude; strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills; analytical and critical thinking skills, and have the desire to take on significant responsibility. In addition to having a good work ethic, candidates should have the ability to define work programs, collect and document evidence, analyze information and evaluate evidence to reach conclusions. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word,

Excel and PowerPoint is essential.
