Student Ambassadors – Guidance for Casual Engagement
1. Student Ambassadors
Student Ambassadors in the Faculty of Arts1 represent their Department/School at a
variety of events and share their experience of studying at Nottingham. Such events
include (but are not limited to):
 Open days
 UCAS visit days
 May Fest
Student Ambassadors may also be engaged to do general administration.
2. Rate of pay
The University has a standard Student Ambassador rate of pay. Please find current rates
of pay in the ‘Casual staff – Rates of Pay’ document. These pay rates will reviewed each
year.
3. Travelling expenses
Travel expenses are paid in exceptional circumstances only, after approval from the
Dean of the Faculty, granted in advance of the casual engagement. Approval process:
the member of staff wishing to pay the travel expenses should email a brief rationale to
the Dean. No action should be taken until a response is received.
4. Engagement
A Student Ambassador’s casual engagement will be administered through Unitemps,
located within the Career and Employability Service at the University. Each casual worker
will be required to register through Unitemps in order for them to administer the casual
engagement.
Once the School has informed the Student Ambassador of the details of the work, the
individual is required to visit Unitemps on B Floor, Portland Building, University Park,
with proof that s/he is eligible to work in the UK. S/he will also need to provide bank
details in order for Unitemps to set up a payroll number. Unitemps will then send the
casual worker a letter of engagement once the registration process is complete.
5. Casual assignment
School of English, School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies (American and
Canadian Studies; Culture, Film and Media; French; German; Language Centre; Russian
and Slavonic; Spanish and Latin American) and School of Humanities (Archaeology; Art
History; Classics; History; Music; Philosophy; Theology and Religious Studies)

A Student Ambassador’s casual assignment consists of administration and/or
representation work for a particular Department/Section or School. If a Student
Ambassador has been given work in two or more Departments/Sections or Schools, the
work will be presented as separate casual assignments.
6. Claiming payment
Student Ambassadors will claim payment through Unitemps by completing a weekly
timesheet for each casual assignment. Payment is made on the penultimate working day
of the month.
