UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM RECRUITMENT ROLE PROFILE FORM Job Title: Trainee Accounting Technician (fixed-term) School/Department: Financial & Business Services, Finance Department Salary: Job Family and Level: Apprentice Contract Status: Fixed term contract for a period of 3.5 years Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week (including day release) Location: King’s Meadow Campus and University Park Campus Reporting to: Director of Financial Operations The Purpose of the New Role: To train as an apprentice Accounting Technician in the Finance Department. The role will involve working in various sections of Finance to gain a broad understanding of a financial environment within the University sector. Attendance is required at Kaplan Financial Training’s day release course to obtain the qualification of Accounting Technician. Main Responsibilities 1. 2. % time per year Observe, learn and understand a wide range of accounting processes, skills and concepts. Demonstrate learned skills and processes as the training period progresses in a wide range of finance duties across various sections in Finance. The sections and duties are: Income Services – assisting in the processing of incoming cash and raising of sales invoices. Payments Services - assisting in the processing of purchase invoices including matching to orders and electronic scanning. Payroll Services – assisting in the processing of monthly payrolls and pension documentation. Travel and Expense Services – assisting in the processing of staff expense claims Pension and Benefits Services – assisting in the processing and reconciliations of Pensions and Benefits available to staff at the University. Debt Services – assisting in the chasing and collection of debts. Tax Services – assisting in VAT compliance work and tax benefit schemes. e-Payment Services – assisting in the processing of transactions through the online shop. Procurement – assisting in purchasing and contracts. Internal Audit – assisting in investigations. Undertake and complete the Accounting Technician qualification in conjunction with Kaplan Financial Training through day release. Create and maintain a training log book over the duration of the apprenticeship period to record skills learned and projects worked on. Ensure that good practice, customer care and health and safety are fully integrated into day-to-day activities. 20% 5% 5% Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Qualifications/ Education Skills/Training Essential Five GCSEs (or equivalent) grades A*-C, including Mathematics and English Language. Desirable Five GCSEs (or equivalent) grades A*-B, including Mathematics and English Language. Good oral and written communication skills. Experience of IT packages particularly Word, Excel and Outlook. Good general computer skills. The trainee role is to prepare the roleholder for a professional career within Finance.
