Things you may want to ask your faculty supervisor… 1. What should the format be for the recitation time, or is that up to the TA? Should it be problem solving, quizzes, homework, Maple demonstrations, or other things? 2. Should attendance be taken the first day? 3. What should the TA do if a student comes to the first meeting and they are not on the class roster? Can a TA allow a student to add the class (that is, sign their drop/add forms)? 4. Will the course policies address the following issues? a. Grading scheme? b. Final exam? c. Academic honesty policy? d. Attendance? e. What is the policy if a student does not attend a quiz or exam? f. What is the policy if an assignment is submitted late? 5. Is there a Maple component to the course? a. If so, how will the TA be involved? b. Is the TA expected to write and/or grade labs? If so, in what format? Are there examples? c. Will the students complete the labs at home or in recitation? d. What are the lab policies and expectations? 6. Will there be an additional grader scheduled for the course? Can we have one recruited? Maybe you know of a reliable person for the job? 7. Do you have particular requests for how the TA’s should keep track of grades? 8. Can we have regularly scheduled TA/faculty meetings? (Possibly weekly?) Should these include the grader? Maybe instead, the TA should be in charge of the majority of the contact with the grader? 9. How should the TA address the issue of student grade appeals? 10. How should a TA deal with students who are allowed extended time on examinations? 11. Are there quizzes? a. If so, does the TA write them? b. Does the TA grade them? c. Will you review them? 12. What are your expectations for office hours? a. What should be covered? b. How long? How often? 13. Should the TA post grades? a. Where (in class, on the web, another place)? b. In what format? 14. Is there a course web page? Does the TA need to visit the web page regularly? Can the TA post things there?
