Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance Job Family and Level: Research & Teaching Level 4 / 4 CTG Contract Status: This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 3 years (until 30 September 2019) Location: University Park Campus Reporting to: Dr Ben Webb Purpose of the Role: This post forms part of a project entitled “timescales of multisensory recalibration in natural environments”, funded by a 2016 Leverhulme Trust Research Project Grant. The successful candidate will contribute to experimental design, recruitment, scheduling and testing of participants, data collection, and data analysis. They will take primary responsibility for developing and maintaining the software of the altered reality system and developing a mathematical account of the dynamics of multisensory recalibration. Main Responsibilities % time per year 1. Under the guidance of the project team, they will develop and maintain the software and hardware of the altered reality system. 20% 2. They will contribute to the experimental design, data analysis and data collection for psychophysical experiments. 10% 3. They will develop a mathematical account of the dynamics of multisensory recalibration over different timescales. 60% 4. The will contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and oral presentations and assume primary responsibility for disseminating the modelling results. 10% Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Qualifications/ Education Skills/Training Experience Statutory/Legal Essential Have or be nearing completion of a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field A good first degree (high 2:i or 1st class honours), in psychology, engineering, computer science, optometry, medicine and/or neuroscience. Computer programming in a Matlab or Python environment Excellent time management and project leadership skills Mathematical modelling of time varying processes Proven ability to program in a Matlab or a Python environment to a high standard Proven ability to carry out human behavioural experiments to a high standard. A strong track record of publishing in high-quality psychology and/or neuroscience journals Eligibility to work in the UK. Desirable Image processing and signal processing Graphic Processing Unit Optimisation Previous experience with programming and controlling head-mounted visual displays Previous experience with programming and optimising performance of graphic processing units Decision Making i) taken independently by the role holder Plan own work schedule and day-to-day work according to agreed objectives. ii) taken in collaboration with others Time-scales and nature of recruitment, testing, data analysis, modelling, software and hardware development, and administration of project iii) referred to the appropriate line manager (please name) by the role holder Wider research strategy of project and research group Additional Information The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in multisensory perception and publication record for their career stage, previous experience with mathematical modelling, good programming, image processing, signal processing and psychophysical skills, and be available to start work as soon as possible on or after the 3rd October 2015.
