Assistant Director of Sport (Performance)
The Purpose of the Role:
The Elite Athlete recruitment and Scholarship manager role is a key strategic role that will assist the high performance team with the achievement of the objectives set out in the University’s Vision for Sport. The role holder will be responsible for developing and implementing an outstanding recruitment strategy for elite athletes both nationally and internationally, developing effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
To lead on the development of the Sports Scholarship support program, making effective use of resources to maximise sporting performance against objectives. Manage a delegated budget related to the recruitment of International elite athletes. To identify gaps in scholar delivery for the
Department and co-ordinate/design solutions and systems. Work with key University personnel to oversee the entry of targeted athletes to the University. Manage quality assurance of the scholar scheme in order to support department requirements.

1 Strategic Athlete Recruitment 50%
Develop and implement an integrated athlete recruitment strategy, encompassing both national and international recruitment that delivers against
the UoN Vision for Sport.
To identify and develop relationships with key external organisations at national and international level including schools, colleges, NGB’s and other bodies such as TASS and UK Sport to deliver against recruitment targets
To build positive relationships with key internal departments including admissions, recruitment, international office and academic schools to develop athlete recruitment pathways and processes.
Plan and execute international athlete recruitment visits to develop formal
agreements with identified partners
Lead on the entry of targeted high performance athletes to the university as the pre-admission athlete contact, supporting student athletes throughout the application process.
Work with coaches in targeted sports to identify key talent pathways and develop sports specific recruitment plans
Lead on communications with the international campuses to ensure a
streamlined process of athlete transfer between programs
2 Sports Scholarship Program:
In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Sport, focus the resources available within the Sports Scholarship Scheme to deliver success against key
targets.
Manage a budget relating to international US PGT recruitment as part of the
High Performance Sport Scholarship Scheme
Lead on the management of scholarship athletes, developing scholar agreements, monitoring scholar engagement with the department and ensuring appropriate academic flexibility is provided to support them.
Lead on the development of the scholar mentoring program, ensuring all mentors are trained and engage in appropriate communication with relevant academic departments.
To work across the University in developing athlete-centred flexible study options that enable athletes to meet study, training and competitive requirements and aspirations.
To work with the Assistant Director of Sport to design, plan and implement a digital system to track team and athlete progress.
To be the lead department contact for the TASS scholarship scheme
Work with the team of performance coaches and other department colleagues to develop sports specific scholarship profiles
Lead on the planning and implementation of the scholar induction programme against budgeted targets
3 Marketing and communications:
Lead on developing a communications plan with particular focus on social media around scholar achievements with the aim of growing institutional profile
Work in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Sport to develop relevant sections of the website to enhance visibility of the scholarship offer
Support the branding compliance of all scholar athletes with any commercial agreements developed.
4 Finance and reporting
Analyse and report on recruitment performance against target.
Complete annual reporting on scholar return on investment against the objectives set out in the Vision for Sport
Conduct an annual review of the Scholar mentoring programme to ensure it is fit for purpose
Ensure all scholar end of year reports are received, complete to an acceptable standard and filed appropriately
Analyse best and emerging recruitment practice in the sector and develop the
University recruitment strategy accordingly
Conduct all necessary reporting to TASS as required
Ensure that University financial processes are followed and effective fiscal management of all associated contracts.
Analyse the growth in reach through scholar engagement processes
5 Other
Deputise for the Assistant Director of Sport as required

Management and supervisory experience
Hours of work are 36¼ per week. Candidates will need to flexible in their approach to their working week, noting that evening and weekend work will at times be required.
A significant amount of international travel is forecasted within this role. The successful candidate will need to be prepared to be flexible around this requirement.
Post holders may be required to operate from any one of the University sports sites.
Post holders will be required to conform to the department’s uniform regulations.
