APPOINTMENT DATE: July 1, 2015 (negotiable) SALARY: Competitive Salary and Benefits JOB TYPE: At Will; Administrator Level 9 RESPONSIBILITIES: The Dean, reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, is the chief academic and administrative officer of the college. Specific information regarding departments and programs that comprise the College of Health Sciences and Human Ecology is available at http://www.bemidjistate.edu/academics/colleges/health_sciences_human_ecology/ The Dean is responsible for developing and sustaining a culture of scholarship, research, innovation and creativity in the areas of academic programming, new program development, financial planning and budgetary allocations within the college, evaluation of faculty and staff, and economic development/outreach efforts. The Dean is responsible for advancing a college program for external fundraising and internationalization of the campus, as well as leading departments through appropriate national accreditations. The Dean is also responsible for graduate programming offered through the college. The Dean supports involvement with interdisciplinary teaching and distance learning delivery, and may teach at least one course per year in a college department. Also, the Dean should anticipate involvement in activities which support Bemidji State University’s Strategic Plan and Master Academic Plan. General Duties: Serves as primary academic spokesperson for the college Provides strategic leadership and leads and manages the college’s human, financial, and physical resources Establishes college strategic plans which support and further develop the University’s Master Academic Plan and Strategic Plan. Leads college efforts for external fundraising Leads college through programmatic accreditations, as appropriate Leads in uniting integrative studies within the college Establishes plan for programmatic enrollment goals Develops cooperative partnerships with public, private, voluntary, international, and corporate sectors Develops programs and partnerships with two and four-year colleges & universities Leads international initiatives within the college Leads in college diversity initiatives Leads college assessment efforts and curricular initiatives Administers collective bargaining agreements Leads in recruiting, motivating, evaluating and retaining faculty Engages in scholarly activity and continuing professional development Provides leadership and promotes graduate offerings Leads college in initiating federal, state, and private foundation grant proposals Provide leadership for and facilitate the development of the University’s academic core values, beliefs, and goals as reflected in the Master Academic Plan. http://www.bemidjistate.edu/academics/affairs/strategic_planning/ QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum: Earned graduate degree in one of the College’s Departments is required Earned doctorate required Minimum of 3 years of administrative and/or comparable leadership experience Eligible for Associate or Professor rank with tenure Evidence of: Leadership experience in developing and motivating professional staff Highly developed interpersonal skills Ability to manage budgets and allocate resources based on institutional priorities Ability to inspire and support faculty toward quality teaching, scholarship and service Ability to inspire and support staff toward professional development Ability to lead interactions with external partners to meet goals of the college Familiarity with graduate and undergraduate higher education models and secondary education programs Experience with professional accrediting agencies required An invitational, transparent and collaborative leadership style Preferred: Experience with administering collective bargaining agreements is desired Understanding of curriculum’s impact on academic quality and efficiencies Experience in setting goals and leading others within a shared governance environment OTHER CONSIDERATIONS: The applicant should demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
