Bemidji State University Spring Semester 2014 Request for Proposal (RFP) Academic Technology Innovation Fund PURPOSE The Bemidji State University Master Academic Plan (2013-2016) states that in furtherance of our Academic Mission, one of our core values is to create and offer “(h)ighly interactive, relevant and engaging teaching and learning environments.” In an effort to encourage and support continued faculty innovation in use and development of academic technology to enhance the teaching and learning environment, Academic Affairs, Student Senate, Center for Professional Development (CPD) and the Center for Extended Learning (CEL) are sponsoring an Academic Technology Innovation Fund which is designed to support: Development of new and creative pedagogies using academic technologies Enhancement of student learning and student retention Exploration and experimentation with emerging technology Use of academic technology to encourage and enhance interdisciplinary teaching “While the potential influence of technology on teaching is profound, the effective introduction of technology into the teaching and learning process must be led by faculty.”1 In support of this effort, Academic Affairs, Student Senate and the CPD are currently seeking proposals from faculty for innovative projects that will utilize technology to enhance the teaching and learning environment across the curriculum. ELIGIBILITY Proposals may be submitted by all Bemidji State University full-time faculty. All proposals will be reviewed by a selection committee of faculty and staff. Preference will be given to proposals that effectively integrate technology into the teaching and learning environment. PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS The proposal should include the following elements and be limited to a maximum of three pages: Proposal Section Information Requested Proposals should provide an overall description of the proposed project Project Summary and describe how the project will integrate technology into the teaching and learning environment. Please indicate the project goals and objectives and describe any necessary hardware or software required for development of the project. Goals & Objectives Also, please outline relative timelines for development of the project and incorporation of any educational best practices concerning use or implementation of academic technology. Please describe how the project will be assessed to determine if the Assessment/Evaluation project goals and objectives have been met. How will you know that you have achieved the teaching or learning goals? What kind of evidence will you gather? A proposed budget should be submitted with each proposal. The budget should reflect the scope of the project (e.g., estimated costs, including budget items for purchase of necessary hardware, software licensing, product INSURANCE or other related expenses). Please explain how project results will be communicated and shared with other faculty. Is the proposed project sustainable beyond the trial or pilot period? Signatures Signature of Faculty member/author, Chair. Budget FUNDING SUPPORT Faculty who submit an RFP that is selected for funding will receive up to a maximum of $2500 in extra duty days. Additional funding is available up to $1500 for purchase of software/hardware necessary to support the project. Any software or hardware purchased through RFP funding will remain the property of the University. The source of funding for the Academic Technology Innovation Fund is the student technology fee. ADMINISTRATION AND SUPPORT Projects developed as a result of a successful proposal will be supported through Information Technology Services (ITS) and eLearning Support. Faculty who submit a project selected for funding will be required to share the results of their project with other faculty through a session presentation at a CPD faculty forum or other meeting (Fall or Spring Start-Up activities). Selected faculty must express willingness to mentor or share project results with other faculty and staff of the University. DUE DATE AND REVIEW PROCESS Proposals must be received by the Center for Professional Development by Monday, February 3rd, 2014. Proposals will be reviewed by a faculty committee selected by the Center for Professional Development. Recommendations for funding will be submitted to the Academic Deans, Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for a final decision. Funded projects will be developed and implemented between the beginning of Summer Session, 2014 and the end of Spring Semester, 2015. All RFP funds will need to be expended by the end of Spring Semester, 2015. Timeline for Fund Applications and Awards December 13th, 2014 Announcement of 2014 Academic Technology Innovation Fund. February 3rd, 2014 Proposals are due to the Center for Professional Development. March 3rd, 2014 Proposals are reviewed and recommended for funding. th March 24 , 2014 Award notices are sent to faculty.
