Dr. Nazanin Shahrokni is the Whittlesey Chair and Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology at
AUB. She earned her PhD in sociology from UC Berkeley in 2013. During the 2013-2014
academic year, she was a Postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard Academy for International and Area
Studies, where she developed her book manuscript entitled The State and the Paradox of Gender
Segregation in Iran. Prior to pursuing an academic career, Nazanin worked as a journalist
for Zanan, a prominent feminist monthly in Iran, and Women Living Under Muslim Laws, an
international solidarity network.
