Master of Science (MS) Degree Program
The MS degree has three options:

The thesis option requires the completion of 30 semester credit hours, including a 6
credit-hour thesis.

The creative component–independent study (CC-IS) option requires the completion of
33 semester credit hours, including a 3 credit-hour independent study project.

The creative component-course work (CC-CW) option requires the completion of 33
semester credit hours of course work.
All MS options require the completion of at least 4 courses with a grade of B or better
from 7 IEM Core courses. In addition, all MS options require the selection of a track.
The department currently supports a variety of courses in one general track and six
specialty tracks. These are







General Systems
Engineering Management
Manufacturing Systems
Operations Research
Quality & Reliability
Facilities & Energy Management
Enterprise Systems & Supply Chains.
For each track, a set of courses is specified as Track Core and another set of courses is
specified as Track Supporting. All program options require the student to take at least 3
courses from the Track Core courses in their chosen track and earn a grade of B or better
in each course. The program options also require that the student take at least 5 courses
(for the thesis option)/6 courses (for the CC-IS option)/7 courses (for the CC-CW option)
from the Track Core and Supporting courses. The remaining courses on an MS plan of
study are graduate elective courses selected with the advisor and committee’s approval.
These elective courses can be courses listed in other tracks or any appropriate course
approved for graduate credit.
With regard to the level of courses, each MS plan of study must include at least 21 hours
of IE&M courses at the 5xxx level or above. The plan may also include a maximum of
12 (9 for the thesis option) hours of 4xxx level courses that are eligible for graduate credit
(indicated with an asterisk (*) in the OSU Catalog).
