Digital Libraries -e553 Title Why? What? How? OUTLINE FOR UNIT 02 History and predecessors Digital libraries started coming to fruition around early 1990s. Thus, they are around a relatively short period of time, historically speaking. Libraries were always connected with technology from ancient clay tablets to modern information and communication technology. From this historical perspective, digital libraries are a further evolutionary and even revolutionary step in library implementations and services. While digital libraries are relatively new, ideas on basis of which they are implemented have been around for some time.
