PROGRAM OF STUDY - PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The HHPR Department offers courses in the theory and practice of physical education for the preparation of teachers and
Athletic coaches. Students earning a major in physical education will complete courses in the theory and practice of physical
education to be prepared to teach physical education pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. In addition to the core, students
complete either an emphasis area or a minor. Emphasis areas include: Coaching, Group Fitness, Dance and Rhythms, and
Strength and Conditioning. Students choosing to complete a minor must select one from a discipline appropriate to teacher
preparation. Professional Education courses are required for all students.

NOTE: When a student attains 85 semester hours of credit (including current enrollment) the student must apply for a
degree check in the Office of the Registrar (Degree Checking Section), Room 102 Russ Hall.
MINIMUM GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: The minimum requirements for graduation include 124 semester hours of
which 60 hours must be from a four-year university. In addition, 45 semester hours must be upper division and 30 hours in
residence at PSU (including 24 of the last 30). Minimum GPA is 2.0 overall, 2.0 in the minor, and 2.0 in the resident
courses at PSU. Requirements for General Education, Baccalaureate Degrees, course descriptions, and Teacher Education
are included in the 2009-2011 University Catalog or online at www.pittstate.edu.
