English 579 Supervised Student Teaching & Follow-Up of Teachers Instructors: Dr. John T. Ikeda Franklin Dr. Lyle W. Morgan II Course Credit: 2 semester hours. This course is Pass Fail only. Course Time: TBA by prior appointment Description: Representatives from the Department of English will visit each student teacher during the Professional Semester (student-teaching). Additionally, representatives will follow up with each area student during the first year of licensed teaching with assistance and support. Required: Concurrent enrollment in the Professional Semester through the College of Education Meetings: The Office of Teacher Selection, College of Education, will notify all students enrolled in the Professional Semester of specific times to meet with the English Department faculty representatives. Normally these meetings occur in the afternoons from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Grubbs Hall #422 Conference Room and in the Fifth Week of the University semester during the regularly scheduled on-campus daylong Thursday meeting with the College of Education supervisor. The final meeting occurs at the end of the semester following the Professional Semester. Textbook: None required Attachments: 1. Field Supervisor’s Visit Report 2. Teacher Education Professional Knowledge Base Formative Evaluation Sheet (60 Indicators) 3. Student Teacher Guidance Sheet (Academic Supervisors) These two documents together with a videotaped teaching presentation during the time of the Field Visit to the school will be used to assess the student’s progress in her/his academic discipline. Follow-up will occur with a supervisor/student-teacher conference and with the cooperating teacher. During the final semester-end meeting, students will discuss their experience, view the videotape (excerpts of perhaps 10-15 minutes) and apply Congenial Criticism. Additional information on the Follow-Up of Teachers will be given at this meeting.
