HRM 6625
Specialized Study in Human Resource Management
Prerequisites
Graduate standing and completion of HRM6603 and a minimum of 4 additional 6000-level
courses in the MSHRM program.
Description
An in-depth, independent study of a specialized area or topic in human resource management
that is of special interest to the student. The course requires a significant review of scholarly
literature, preparation of a scholarly paper, and may involve an oral defense. Enrollment
requires the consent of the instructor and the student’s academic advisor. Approvals must be
obtained in advance of enrollment based on a written proposal submitted by the student. This
course may be taken only once during the degree program and may not be used as a substitute for
other required business courses.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Discuss key concepts emanating from an in-depth study of a selected topic in human
resource management.
2. Present a comprehensive review of the literature and/or findings from the topical study in a
major research paper.
3. Demonstrate conversance in the selected topic through an oral presentation.
4. Discuss how the selected topic may inform strategies to support business objectives.
Purpose
To provide an opportunity to select and explore a human resource management topic of special
interest to the student, in accordance with specific parameters of study established by the
instructor. MSM Human Resource Management concentration specified elective.

American Psychological Association. (2009 or current). Publication manual of the American
Psychological Association (6th ed.). Washington, DC: American Psychological
Association.
Master Syllabi are developed by the senior faculty in each business discipline. This Master Syllabus must be used as the basis for developing the
instructor syllabus for this course, which must also comply with the content specifications outlined in the Troy University Faculty Handbook.
The objectives included on this Master Syllabus must be included among the objectives on the instructor’s syllabus, which may expand upon the
same as the instructor sees fit. The statement of purpose seeks to position the course properly within the curriculum and should be consulted by
faculty as a source of advisement guidance. Specific choice of text and other details are further subject to Program Coordinator guidance.
