CareerLeader - Self-Assessment Tool 2201 G Street, NW Duquès Hall – Suite 560 Washington, DC 20052 Telephone: (202) 994-6704 Fax: (202) 994-8347 sbcareer@gwu.edu Contrary to popular opinion, most students entering business school do not have a specific and clearly defined career objective. That’s OK! You have chosen to come to GW to broaden your horizons and explore possibilities. Your exploration will be more effective and focused, however, if you take the time for career self-assessment at the beginning of your career search. No two students are exactly alike, and graduates from GW have pursued a wide variety of business careers. The question is not what are the best jobs; but rather, what is the best career for you. To help you with this first step of business career self-assessment, our office has made available CareerLeader, the premier on-line business career self-assessment program. CareerLeader, developed by the Directors of Career Development Programs at Harvard Business School, is used by over 100 of the top Business schools in the United States and Europe. CareerLeader consists of three assessments: the Business Career Interest Inventory, the Leadership Motivations Profile, and the Leadership Skills Profile. You’ll be able to compare your interest, skill and reward value profiles with the profiles of business professionals from 27 different business career paths. You’ll also be able to read detailed descriptions of what these careers are all about, what it takes to be successful and what types of people enjoy them. These career profiles also include in-depth interviews with business professionals who give insider information and share their perceptions about who will enjoy that career and who won’t. The program will also: Provide you assessments of your unique pattern of business relevant interests, values and abilities. Recommend specific business careers and organizational cultures for you to look into. Provide you with in-depth views into specific business careers, including information about the interests, rewards and abilities associated with each one. Evaluate your entrepreneurial attributes and teach you how to analyze corporate cultures. It is recommended that you print out the results of your three assessments and your Executive Summary once you take the tests. We can assist you with their interpretation during either one of our “Career Assessment Workshops” or during an individual counseling session with one of our advisors. We have found them to be valuable in your personal career development as well as helping us get to know you and your interests better. If you are interested in taking this assessment, you must email sbcareer@gwu.edu with your GWid number. We will then register your name as a valid user and send you the username and password. CareerLeader is only for currently enrolled School of Business students. Once registered you will be able to access the tests and your results during your enrollment at GW. You are able to take each of the 3 inventories three times if you choose. For more information on CareerLeader, visit the website at http://www.careerleader.com.
