A handout was provided with this information, plus information about relevant Willamette policies.

Old Business

Item 1: Minutes

January 15, 2015 Minutes were accepted and approved.

Item 2: Potholde at entrance to Sparks parking lot

Rich reported that this is an ODOT issue, but we will take care of it on campus. It has been filled once, but sunk again. It will be filled again.

Item 3: Building Captains

On hold for a future meeting

Item 4: Loading Dock at the Law School

This is a work in progress.

The staircase is an eyesore, but is safe and structurally sound. It will be repaired.

Item 5: Paper cutters

Five campus groups have taken advantage of the offer to replace old paper cutters that had no safety guard. Modification to existing paper cutters are NOT recommended.

New Business

Item 1: People Gate at Kaneko Commons

Not a safety committee issue

Item 2: Gate across sky bridge

Proposed card-swipe gate at Sparks end of the sky bridge. Rich will write a recommendation for this for the committee to review.

Chris Linn suggested adding a mirror at the curve in the bridge.

Item 3: ASWU Representative

We have a new ASWU Rep: Max Kroner-Dale

Open Forum:

1. Safety signs are in Rich’s office and will go up when the T-shirts go out in April.

2. An outdoor emergency phone is needed at Thetford Lodge.

3. CPR classes on March 18 in the morning and afternoon, in the HR training room.

4. There will be a Safety Fair on campus on April first. It will include CERT, Salem Fire, WEMS, among others.

5. A rock has been moved from the corner near Henkle gym. A student fell in the hole that was left.

Accident/Injury Report

Katie L. gave an update on the past month’s accidents and injuries; only one new report occurred:

An employee was moving a boulder from a truck bed to a tractor bucket. While moving the boulder, the employee felt something pop on the inside of their right elbow area. It required days off work. The employee had been told not to move the boulder alone.

Meeting adjourned at 10:55 a.m.

Willamette University community members are welcome to attend any meeting as a guest and are encouraged to contact any Safety

Committee member with concerns and/or questions.
