In other words, this project is one in which you will voluntarily help your community. Each student will be required to complete a service learning project of his/her choosing (minimum 6 hours). WHAT TO DO: 1. Chose a project. 2. Submit a proposal of your project to Mrs. Jennette for her approval. This proposal should include on a full sheet of binder paper: A. NAME OF AGENCY OR PERSON TO BE SERVED. B. A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SERVICE YOUR WILL PREFORM. C. THE NAME AND PHONE NUMBER OF A CONTACT PERSON. 3. When your proposal has been accepted, ask Mrs. Jennette for a verification sheet. 4. Make the necessary arrangements. 5. Do the project. Be sure to get the “Service learning Verification sheet” signed! (and not by your parents!) 6. The students will type a paper for the Service Learning Project. The paper will include all of the above information, as well as why he/she chose that particular project and fully describe his/her experience. The typed paper will be in MLA format. Font-Times New Roman, Size-12, Double Spaced. 7. Create a Power Point showing the volunteer work that you have done. A. Include at LEAST 3 PICTURES(photos) Capturing you “In Action” B. Include a description of what this organization does for the community. C. Include a description of what you did. D. Include an explanation of why this was an important project. 8. You will present your project to the class, describing your experience. 9. Power Point Presentation will need to be 4-6 Minutes. (Yes, I will time you.) PROPOSAL DUE DATE: November 5, 2015 PROJECT DUE DATE: December 1. 2015 SUGGESTIONS: 1. Volunteer at the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, AIM, United Way, etc. 2. Help out at a retirement home. 3. Find an elderly person who needs help and mow their lawn, wash their dishes, etc. 4. Participate in a fundraiser for a worthy charity. 5. Design your own project! WHAT YOU CAN’T DO: 1. Anything you get paid for. 2. Anything for someone related to you. 3. Helping a “for-profit” organization. 4. “Regular” service at your church. In other words, working in the nursery, helping moving chairs, etc. Service Learning Project 2015 Note: This assignment will count as a Project Grade and it will also be recorded on your High School Transcript. If students do not complete this project, it will affect their grade GREATLY for the nine weeks. DUE DATE: The due date is firm!!! If the paper or any portion of the assignment is a day late, it will receive half credit. After a day late the grade will be a ZERO! The students have most of the semester to complete the Service Learning Project, so there will be NO EXTENSIONS!
