DESCRIPTION: A volunteer project that is done either in groups or individually for someone outside
of your family – and not for pay! In other words, this project is one in which you will voluntarily help
your community. Each student will be required to complete a service learning project of his/her
choosing.
WHAT TO DO:
1. Chose a project.
2. Complete the proposal of your project to Dr. Tollison for her approval.
A. NAME OF AGENCY OR PERSON TO BE SERVED.
B. A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SERVICE YOU WILL PERFORM.
C. THE NAME AND PHONE NUMBER OF A CONTACT PERSON.
D. THREE GOALS YOU HAVE FOR THE PROJECT.
3. When your proposal has been accepted, ask Dr. Tollison for a verification sheet.
4. Make the necessary arrangements
5. Do the project. Be sure to get the “Service learning Verification sheet” signed! (and not by your
parents!)
6. The student will write a paper reflecting on their experience. The paper will include all of the
above information, as well as why you chose this particular project and fully describe your
experience and what you learned about society/culture from your project. The typed paper will
be in MLA format. Font-Times New Roman, Size-12, Double Spaced and shared on Google
Drive. No other submissions will be accepted.
7. Create a Google Presentation showing the volunteer work that you have done.
A. Include at LEAST 3 PICTURES(photos) Capturing you “In Action”
B. Include a description of what this organization does for the community.
C. Include a description of what you did.
D. Include an explanation of why this was an important project.
8. You will present your project to the class, describing your experience.
9. Power Point will need to be from 4-6 Minutes. (Yes, I will time you.)

Note: This assignment will count as a Project Grade and it will also be recorded on your High School
Transcript. If students do not complete this project, it will affect their grade GREATLY for the 2nd
Quarter.
DUE DATE: The due date is firm!!! If the paper is a day late, it will receive half credit. After a day late the
grade will be a ZERO! The students have most of the semester to complete the Service Learning
Project, so there will be NO EXTENSIONS!
