Homeland Park Primary School Title I Strategies/Activities for 2013-2014 *A Full Version of the Title I plan is available at the school 1. Provide instructional materials in ELA and Math to support the Balanced Literacy program and CCSS/SC Standards in grades K-2. Expenditures may include paper, notebooks, pocket folders, composition notebooks, student word banks, markers, sentence strips, leveled texts, classroom libraries, Literacy Spot supplies, writing materials, student publishing center supplies/materials, teacher resource books, poster maker cutouts and paper, laminating film, Math manipulatives, supplemental curriculum materials, etc. Incentives for students who meet academic goals could include pizza party, small items such as markers, stickers, books, etc. 2. Integrate technology into classroom instruction with the use of technology materials, supplies, and equipment in grades K-2. Expenditures may include computers, NComputing, iPods, batteries, iPads, podcasting materials, teacher resource books, ink cartridges, printers, replacement remotes, replacement marking pens for SMART Boards, TVs, Senteos, bulbs, flip cameras, digital cameras, AV equipment, studio equipment for morning show, V-Brick equipment, etc. 3. Implement Reading Recovery with 3 Teachers @ 1.0 FTE to provide one-on-one reading instruction for first grade students at risk. 4. Provide 12 Teachers and or paraprofessionals to provide extended (before & after) day programs in Reading and Math for students in grades K-2. 5. Employ 1 Teacher @ 1.0 FTE as an instructional coach to conduct professional development for teachers including follow-up, teach model lessons, observe lessons, provide feedback to teachers, and ensure curriculum alignment with South Carolina standards in grades K-2. Expenditures include salary, benefits, and office supplies such as paper, printer cartridges, folders, professional development books, etc. 6. Designated staff will attend effective practices workshops and conferences designed to improve student achievement and performance on state assessments and visit model schools to observe proven strategies from exemplar teachers/principals. Expenditures may include travel, lodging, meals, registration, materials, consultant fees, staff development supplies, etc. Speakers/Consultants will be selected based on analysis of student need. The school will consult with higher education and professional education organizations to select appropriate training for teachers, including number of days and provider. Rates will be determined by the provider(s) selected. Examples of consultant topics may include Positive Behavior Intervention, Writing, math strategies, etc. Staff development supplies will be purchased on the recommendation of the consultant and may include books for book study, manipulatives for use in training, and general workshop supplies such as markers, post-it charts, index cards, etc. Possible workshops/conferences include SC Math Conference, SC Reading Conference, Thinking Maps training, SC Formative Assessment conference, etc. Attendees will be gradelevel teachers and administrators (when appropriate.) Behavior and classroom discipline has been identified as a need throughout the school. Professional development through a partnership with Safe and Civil Schools program will be provided to teacher-team-leaders (foundations PD for 10 people-Intensive classroom management and Positive behavior intervention (2 days) Whole school CHAMPS PD (3 days).) Supplies and materials to support this model will also be purchased including books and other materials. 7. Create, print or copy, and distribute parent-school communications, such as newsletters and brochures for grades K-2. Expenditures may include: Postage, post cards, letterhead stationary and envelopes, student calendars/handbooks, school summary reports, monthly calendars, testing information, PTSO announcements, newsletters, attendance certificates, student awards, faculty calendars, student planners/agendas, etc. 8. Provide instructional supplies and materials for themed parent night activities, such as Math Night, Science Exploration, etc. to involve/inform parents on grade-level standards. Expenditures may include consumable materials, refreshments, and other supplies to carryout parent night themes.4 nights throughout the year for themed nights. (Technology Night, Literacy Night, Math Night, and Write Night)The number of participants vary widely from approximately 50 to 150. This includes any manipulatives or activity supplies used during each station for math, literacy, and/or technology night. Examples could include stationary for parent/guardians to write or draw a Thinking Map on with their child about a “wish” they have for them in their future. Math night supplies could include various materials for make-and-take activities, etc. 9. Provide 1 ParaPro Teacher as Academic Interventionists to provide additional academic instruction and aid in meeting the needs of ERI in ELA, and related core content based on DIBLES testing in grades K-2. These individuals are highly qualified and/or certified. 10. Contract with 2 teachers 12 hours/week for 32 weeks @ $25/hour plus fringe as Academic Integration Specialist to provide additional academic instruction and Math/Science integration in small groups in grades K-5.
