UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Bonnie moved to vote to spend $4,700 to bring Phired Up and IValues for recruitment next fall. Alpha
Delta Pi seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Laura motioned to vote on allocating money for donuts for people to go to class during Greek Week.
Alpha Delta Pi seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Laura motioned to vote on moving exchanges to before or after Greek Week instead of during the week
to encourage focus on academics. Alpha Delta Pi moved to discuss. Sigma Kappa seconded the motion.
Discussion: Alpha Delta Pi wanted to know why this came about. Laura mentioned how we already have
a lot of events during this week. It is recognized that grades have gone down in our community. Doing
this would allow people to spend more time on academics, and also encourage getting to know pairings in
the week before and after. This also allows more people to go to these exchanges since Greek Jam
practice usually runs so late anyway. Sigma Kappa: We were concerned since Greek Week is already a
full week, pushing the exchanges/festivities back a week wouldn’t help grades. That would just extend it.
Laura: With the mandatory events that we have during Greek Week, if you are attending these events,
then you’re getting ready for an exchange, you take away a whole night from your academics. Alpha Chi
Omega: Does that mean both dry and wet exchanges? Laura: When my counterpart, Scott and I
discussed this, it is meant for wet events. It’s mostly to keep people out of downtown area and
exchanges. We want to avoid large-scale exchanges. If your chapter has questions for me about an
exchange, I will look at it at a case-by-case basis. A movie night is a good, low-key way to relax from the
week, but an exchange like ice-skating takes away from what you can be doing academically. Alpha
Delta Pi: The week after Greek Week is closer to finals. How can having exchanges closer to finals be
helpful? Molly: Since time is already blocked out for Greek Week events, then we need to have time for
our academics. (end of discussion)
Delta Zeta moved to vote on this motion. Sigma Kappa seconded the motion. Chapters in favor: Alpha
Chi Omega, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Zeta, Gamma Phi Beta, and Xi Omicron Iota. Chapters opposed:
Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Kappa. The motion passed with the majority.
Alpha Chi Omega motioned to open discussion on Sigma Sigma Sigma participating in formal
recruitment. Alpha Delta Pi seconded the motion.
Delta Zeta: Wants to confirm when we will be voting..which will be on March 20th. Alpha Chi Omega:
Wants clarification of why we chose one way of how they are participating in recruitment. Jessica: Since
Sigma already has a house on campus, we don’t want confusion with PNM’s of having a chapter drop. If
they really liked a chapter, then it was gone, we are worried about having PNMs dropping thinking they
will receive a bid form Sigma by dropping. Will get rid of a lot of confusion, and to ensure the PNMs stay
in the recruitment process. After we vote on these proposals, it’s not set in stone. It’s an ongoing
conversation with Sigma. It’s a starting point. Alpha Delta Pi: Does Sigma have a preference of what
option they want? Sigma representative: We don’t have a preference. We feel comfortable with what
you all are comfortable with. It’s a beginning point, not an end point. Sigma Kappa: How would you be
prepared to participate in formal recruitment fully if that was allowed? Sigma representative: It would be
different because we wouldn’t have as much manpower. It would be similar, but we might have a video
and a teambuilding activity because we won’t have as many people. We would talk about colonization
and how that works. Alpha Chi Omega: if we allow Sigma quota to be what ours is, would that negatively
affect our quota? ANDREA: It’ll be a conversation of what our numbers will be. They will be different with
a new organization. Numbers are usually totally off with an extension. We have to project how they will
do. There will be a lot of conversation about the trends of this campus, but our numbers will be totally
different along with quota this next recruitment. We can’t know for sure. Your PHA delegate can talk to
the Release Figure Specialist for your chapter to get a better idea about it.
Bailie motioned to vote on a date for summer meeting, being July 20th. Alpha Delta Pi seconded the
motion. Chapters in favor: Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Delta Pi, Gamma Phi Beta,
Sigma Kappa. Chapters opposed: Delta Zeta and Xi Omicron Iota. This motion passed to the majority.
Alpha Delta Pi motioned to vote on “Panhellenic pan” proposal. Delta Zeta seconded the motion. All
chapters in favor. Passed unanimously.
