Advisors’ Meeting Agenda August 18th, 2009 Welcome and Introductions We had about 20 people on the call!! I think this option really helped out! The comments about this meeting were overwhelming positive and people really liked this option. I received quite a number of emails the day after about utilizing this option. Advisors’ Meetings: New format – conference calls! Future meetings: Tuesday, August 18th at 6:00pm – We will not be meeting in person rather; we will be meeting via conference call. I will send out the agenda, any additional handouts, and the conference call number the day before and also send notes after the meeting. All you have to do is call in and participate from the convenience of your home, office, or car! Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:00pm – We will be meeting at the Kappa Sigma House and I will send directions once we get closer. Additionally, I will look at acquiring a speaker once again for some training opportunities. Potential Topics/ Speakers: Dr. Gilbert Brown (NPHC), a staff member from the new learning commons, a staff member from General Council, and a representative from the police department. Office Updates: We are currently in the process of hiring a new staff member and once I hear more about that process, I will let you know. New graduate assistant – Victoria Moger New practicum student – Andrew Crain Recruitment Updates: Panhellenic: Please see additional handout for detailed schedule. There was a question about how advisors were handling the splitting of Day 1 into 2 days. One advisor liked the idea of the potential members party splitting. IFC: Chapter information night will take place on Thursday, Sept. 3rd from 5:30pm-9:00 in the PSU Ballroom. Bid day will be Friday, Sept. 11th from 10:00am – 5:00pm in the Fraternity & Sorority Council Office. NPHC: NPHC will host an informational event on Friday, Sept. 11th at 4:30pm in the PSU. Local chapters: Xi Omicron Iota will be holding their recruitment Sept. 20th- 24th with bid day taking place on Sept. 26th. IFC Expansion Four fraternities will be making presentations and holding an open forum to the campus community on the following days Sigma Nu: Sept. 25th @ 2:30pm (presentation) and 3:30 (open forum) PSU 315 Beta Theta Pi: Oct. 2nd @ 2:30pm (presentation) and 3:30 (open forum) PSU Parli Room Pike: Oct. 8th @ 2:30pm (presentation) and 3:30 (open forum) PSU 315 Alpha Sigma Phi: Oct. 9th @ 2:30pm (presentation) and 3:30 (open forum) PSU Parli Room Great discussion about expansion and what that will look like here at Missouri State University. One of the advisors offered that a long term plan for expansion would be helpful. Additionally, comments were made about history and legacy however, this is a student run project and they will have their say. Swine Flu Update Question came up about sorority recruitment and what would happen if there was a swine flu outbreak? Fraternity and Sorority Life will think through that question. NPC Award Our local Panhellenic won a national risk management award and will be receiving this award in Oct. at the National Panhellenic Conference Annual Meeting. Our local PHA will be looking at different ways to celebrate this accomplishment. One suggestion was hanging a banner in the PSU and JQH.
