Leaf Two Projects
In order to become a Leaf Two Green Team, your office or department must set
goals to become more sustainable and focus on engaging and educating your peers.
Sustainability education and engagement typically comes in the form of planned
projects and efforts. In order to ensure Green Teams are being supported in these
efforts, the following is a new requirement for becoming a Leaf Two Green Team:
☐ Schedule a Green Team consult with the Sustainability Coordinator to
identify areas of improvement and potential projects. (This must be
completed before you will receive your second leaf).
To become a Leaf Two Green Team, you must choose at least three of the six
projects listed below and explain how your Green Team implemented the project,
including details on the outcome. You are not restricted to the examples below; each
office or department will have their own creative way of implementing the projects.
☐ Develop a mechanism for peers to submit their ideas for your office or
department to become more sustainable
 For example: The Example Department has a public bulletin board. The
Eco-Ambassador designates one area of the board for posting ideas to
make their department more sustainable. The Eco-Ambassador then
compiles a list of these ideas for future projects.

☐ Create a display of your commitment to be more sustainable
 For example: The Example Department created a pledge poster and
asked all of the Green Team members to sign the poster as a visual
reminder of their commitment to become more sustainable and as a
way to increase participation in the office or department.

☐ Engage your office or department by asking them to make one small
commitment to become more sustainable
 For example: The Example Department sent out a department wide
email asking everyone to further their commitment to sustainability by
adding a quote or tip about sustainability to their email signature. They
gave several options, but also encouraged everyone to get creative and
find their own statistic or tip to share.

☐ Establish a mechanism for educating your peers on sustainability topics
 For example: The Example Department has a newsletter that is
circulated once a month. The Eco-Ambassador requested a small side
column be used for reminders and tips about sustainability.

☐ Increase participation in your Green Team
 For example: The Example Department was able to add five new
members to their Green Team by implementing outreach initiatives

☐ Increase your Green Office Certification Level
 For example: When Example Department became a Green Team, they
completed the Green Office Certification Checklist and were awarded
Certified Level. They made several changes in their office and achieved
Bronze Certified when they submitted their Leaf Two Application.

Green Office Certification Checklist
Check off each item that your office or department is currently practicing. Green
Office Certification Level is awarded based on the percentage of items your office is
practicing. You can fill out a new Green Office Certification each year to increase
your certification: Certified, Bronze Certified, Silver Certified, or Gold Certified.

☐ We ensure that recyclable materials are properly segregated and taken to
appropriate collection areas.
☐ In our office and halls, recycling bins are available and clearly marked.
☐ We periodically review proper recycling practices at staff meetings to ensure
all members are aware of the rules and get their questions answered.
☐ We provide recycling bins at events and meetings sponsored by our

set them to the lowest reasonable interval.
☐ We send pre-holiday/pre-break emails to our staff reminding everyone to turn
off all lights and electronic devices.
☐ We close blinds when we leave our office, classroom, or residence rooms for
the day or when we are gone for significant periods.
Purchasing
☐ For printing and copying, our office only uses paper containing at least 30
percent recycled content.

Control has any surplus in stock or if we can obtain any.
☐ Before purchasing new furniture, we consider sustainable furniture options.
☐ When possible we select Energy Star certified models when purchasing
appliances and equipment (printers, copiers, microwaves, etc.)
Waste Reduction & Publication
☐ We print or copy to both sides of a page whenever possible.
☐ Double-siding is set as a default on our computers.
☐ Visual prompt is present on our copy machines to remind members of office to
double-side print when possible.
☐ We reuse paper that has text on only one side when possible to save paper.
☐ We keep a scrap paper pile near our printer and/or copier.
☐ We use inter-office instead of regular envelopes whenever possible and
promote the redistribution of inter-office envelopes in our organization.
☐ If we publish a newsletter, we offer an electronic version that readers can
select instead of the paper version.
