Approval of Deletion of Academic Programs at the University of Alaska
Fairbanks
The University of Alaska Fairbanks is requesting that the Board of
Regents approve a request to delete the following academic degree
programs:

Provost Reichardt will be available to explain the rationale for deleting
these programs.
The President recommends that:
MOTION
"The Academic and Student Affairs Committee recommends that the
Board of Regents delete the Masters in Teaching – Secondary
Licensed Teachers; Masters in Teaching – Secondary; and Bachelor
of Arts in Human Services degree programs at the University of
Alaska Fairbanks. This motion is effective February 20, 2003."

Approval of Revision to School Name at the University of Alaska
Fairbanks
Reference 3
Chancellor Lind has approved a request from the School of Agriculture
and Land Resources Management to rename the school to "School of
Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences." Included in Reference 3 is
the letter from Dean Lewis, explaining the rationale for the revision and
the process followed to arrive at the proposed name. Provost Reichardt
will be available to answer any questions regarding this request.
The President recommends that:
MOTION
"The Academic and Student Affairs Committee recommends that the
Board of Regents approve the request from the University of Alaska
Fairbanks to change the name of the 'School of Agriculture and Land
Resources Management' to the 'School of Natural Resources and
Agricultural Sciences.' This motion is effective February 20, 2003."

Ongoing Issues
A.
Update on UAF Athletics – Title IX
Mike Sfraga, Associate Vice President for Student Services, will provide
an update regarding UAF’s compliance review and a status report on the
continued commitment to gender equity.
B.
Update Regarding Student Services – UA/UAS Student Services External
Review
Mike Sfraga, Associate Vice President for Student Services, and Paul
Kraft, UAS Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management, will
review applicable UAS recommendations and discuss actions taken to
address these issues, as well as related initiatives to further enhance
student services throughout the region.
C.
Update Regarding UAS Enrollment Management
Mike Sfraga, Associate Vice President for Student Services, and Paul
Kraft, UAS Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management, will
discuss UAS’ enrollment management efforts, including development of a
strategic plan, alignment of enrollment management resources,
development and implementation of the system-wide enrollment
management database (EMAS+), and utilization of telecounseling in the
recruitment process.
D.
Update on Accreditation Activities
The provosts will update members of the committee regarding institutional
and programmatic accreditation activities at their campuses.
V.
New Business
A.
First Reading of Regents' Policy 09.10 – Financial Aid
Reference 4
Mike Sfraga, Associate Vice President for Student Services, Mary Gower,
SW Manager, Student Services, and Barbara Burnett, UAS Director of
Financial Aid, will present background information and a first reading of
the proposed financial aid policy.
The draft policy was developed by MAU Financial Aid Directors, and
reviewed by MAU Chief Student Affairs Officers, Chief Enrollment
Officers, as well as the UA Student Coalition. Following this first

reading, it will undergo a further review with the Student Coalition and is
anticipated to go before the board for approval at its April 2003 meeting.
