FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
Our NVC Café takes pride in preparing and serving quality food items while providing an excellent
customer experience to our campus community of staff and students, as well as to our outside
community in a clean and organized work environment. They know that in order to do this right, they
need a clean and organized work area. By consistently following the proper recipes and procedures, and
adhering to high standards regarding food preparation, cleaning and sanitation, teamwork and
customer service, they help to ensure that the NVC Café customer experience is always the best it can be.
Our Café Crew Members are greeting and interacting with customers directly, making menu items while
portioning out the ingredients to our standards. Crew members’ responsibilities require them to be on
their feet working while clocked in, unless on break. If they are not busy, they are expected to take on
tasks they see that need to get done, and pitch in to help their teammates.
In addition to following NVC District Auxiliary Services policies and procedures, principal
responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Food and Drink Prep
o Follow daily prep sheet and make the required daily amount of grab ‘n go items.
o Follow recipes.
o Portion grab ‘n go and pack them neatly.
o Store food in designated food container and storage areas.
o Wash and peel, and cut various foods, such as fruits, vegetables. To prepare for
prepping.
o When lead is not available, shift leads are responsible for keeping track of daily prep
sheets and prep food to be made.
Sales & Customer Service
o Operate cash register, handle money, and give correct change.
o Knowledge on each Grab n go’s ingredients and pricing on each food items in the menu.
o Greet with a smile and be courteous to customers.
o Advertise product or make recommendations.
o Check all food items for expiration dates.
Cleaning

Sanitize all prep areas with sanitizer and clean towels.
Clean after each use of utensils and prep area.
Sweep dining area as often as needed.
Clean coffee table and get rid of any milk and sugar residue.
Microwave needs to be clean each day.
Wipe all display fridge glasses.
Espresso counter need to be wipe and clean. Check for syrup/milk residue, coffee beans
and dust.
Wipe dining tables inside and outside often.
All food containers, utensils need to be clean and organize properly.
Panini grill needs to be clean every night.
Dirty Laundry needs to be delivered to the gym once a week.
Boxes should be broken down and place it at the garbage collection area.
Maintain the prep area / prep table clean at all times!
Sweep the floor.
Fridges should be cleaned inside out every day.
Storage should be maintained cleaned and organize.
Espresso machine NEEDS TO BE CLEANED EVERYDAY!

Chips should be stock daily especially during down times.
Sodas should be stock daily during down times.
Candies, gums, bars, and condiments should be stock as needed.
Water dispenser needs to be filled with ice and water as needed.
Coffee beans should be stock each day.
Coffee cups, soda cups, lids, syrups, sauces should be stock each day at least twice a day.
Stocking
The ideal candidate will:
• Have the ability to develop positive working relationships with all restaurant employees and work as
part of a team by helping others as needed or requested
• Have the ability to speak clearly and listen attentively to guests and other employees
• Have the ability to maintain a professional appearance at all times and display a positive and
enthusiastic approach to all assignments
• Be able to exhibit a cheerful and helpful attitude, and provide exceptional customer service
• Be able to adapt to changing customer volume levels with a sense of urgency
• Have the ability to demonstrate a complete understanding of the menu
• Be able to follow instructions for recipes and sanitation guidelines
• Have the ability to be cross-trained in all areas of the kitchen and line
• Have the ability to communicate in the primary language(s) of the work location
• Have a high school diploma
• Have a Food Handler’s Certification card
