Each student is examined in ten subjects, four core and six optional. Five subjects are taken in each semester, starting
in January (Spring Semester) and in September (Autumn Semester). Autumn semester examinations are held in
December and Spring semester examinations are held in May.
Each subject is marked out of 100: at the discretion of the instructor, up to 40 marks out of 100 can be allotted to
course work. In the case of subjects where marks are awarded for course work, a minimum of 35% must be obtained in
the written examination in order to pass the subject.
Pass
The pass standard is 40% in each subject.
Honours
Honours will be awarded on the candidate’s aggregate marks. The standard for First Class Honours is 70%, and for Second
Class Honours (Grade 1) is 60%, and for Second Class Honours (Grade II) is 50%.
Compensation
Compensation is not allowed.
Exemptions
Once having passed a subject, a candidate is exempt from further examination in that subject. Students who registered for
the MSc (Technology Management) degree, but who are not in a position to complete it, may petition to be conferred with
the Higher Diploma in Technology Management, provided they have passed all the necessary subjects.
Repeat Examinations
Students who fail or defer an examination in a specified subject may take the examination at the next sitting. Candidates
will be permitted to defer only in special cases and with the permission of the Programme Director. Credit for continuous
assessment will carry through only to the next available sitting of the failed or deferred examination.
Students should note that courses may change from year to year, may not be offered in certain years and may be dropped
entirely from the programme. Where a failed or deferred subject is not offered, a different course may be substituted in
order to gain the requisite credits. Students must re-register, re-attend and pay appropriate fees for the alternative subject.
In the case of a subject which is repeated successfully, the mark recorded shall be higher of either (a) 40% or (b) the
average of the original mark and the repeat mark for the subject. Candidates who repeat are eligible for honours on the
basis of their overall grade for the subject.
Time Limit
Candidates must complete the Higher Diploma within three years of first registering.
