Child Directed Speech & Dog Talking
Researchers have noted the similarities in the ways in which people talk to babies/toddlers
and the way they talk to dogs.
Below is a picture of a dog. Around the image, note down typical things people say to their
dogs.
Good dog, good
dog.
Now, try to script a typical conversation between a parent and child. You will use this script
to create a hypothesis as to what the features of CDS might be.
Once your script is complete and you have listed the features you think are present in
CDS, it’s time to test your theory using real data.
