Activity 1
Ask your learners to look at the reflective diary template that is based on the reflective cycle
theory used by professionals who work in health, social care and child care environments.
Explain to your learners that they will be completing a reflective diary throughout the duration
of their qualification and that this can include experiences and activities completed in class
as well as experiences and tasks completed as part of their work placements.
Explain to your learners that a new sheet must be used for each experience and that each
entry must be dated (three experience tables are provided, learners can copy and paste the
table if more are needed).
Ask learners to keep their reflective diary safe and securely in their course folder.
Ensure that learners understand the information required in each box and how this links to
the reflective cycle. Ask learners to each complete one reflective diary entry and check
learners’ understanding of how to do this.

Reflection in Practice
Learner Activity
Introduction
Reflection enables professionals in health, social care and child care environments to
improve their skills and increase their knowledge and understanding. You are going to
complete one activity: a reflective diary
Activity 1
Activity 1 – Tutor instructions/answers
Reflection is a process that enables professionals in health, social care and child care
environments to improve their working practices. Reflection involves spending time thinking
about an activity you have undertaken or a situation you may have experienced. It involves
identifying what you have learned, what has worked well and what you plan to change or
improve as a result.
Below is a reflective diary template. Use this to reflect on your experiences whilst completing
your qualification. Complete a new diary template for each experience you reflect on (three
experience tables are provided, copy and paste the table if more are needed).
