Chapter 3.1 Human Reproductive Systems
Like any mammal, the human species has a complex reproductive system. The study of the human reproductive system has led to
many of the advancements that daily make headlines in our modern society. In-vitro fertilization, test tube babies, cloning and
genetic engineering are only some of the recent advancements made in biology, the direct result of studies of human reproduction.
The reproductive system, like any system of the body must be studied in two ways. Complex human systems are a combination of the
parts that make them up, the anatomy, and they are controlled by various chemical and biophysical reactions. In the reproductive
system, it is the role of hormones to co-ordinate the reproductive process.
Hormones: substances released from specific glands to control particular body functions.____________________

The human body has many hormones that control various reactions. The ‘sex hormones’ are those that control the reproductive
process. Complete the following chart detailing the production and function of the following hormones.
