Introduction to the unit

Explain to the group that the purpose of the
unit is to produce a strategy for a business
who wants to move into European markets

PowerPoint presentation – what the unit
entails.


Introduction to the selected business.
It is suggested that the class all investigate
the same business. The teacher will need
good links to the selected business.

Introduce the business to be investigated –
explain what they currently do and the ideas
they have concerning expansion into
European markets.

Homework - candidates establish how many
member states there are in the European
Union and two facts about each state.

Arrange the class into small groups. Each
group identifies the member states of the
European Union. Making reference to their
homework task the group pulls together the
facts they have established for each state.

PowerPoint presentation - start to introduce
the key characteristics that define the EU
and its individual member states - start with
demographic profile.

The initial exercise will help focus the
candidates. They will then have some
background knowledge to work from.

Candidates take notes from the
presentation.

OCR recognises that the teaching of this qualification above will vary greatly from school to school
and from teacher to teacher. With that in mind this lesson plan is offered, as a possible approach
but will be subject to modifications by the individual teacher.
Lesson length is assumed to be one hour.
