3. PROJECT
Candidates are advised that they must present this information under the designated headings and
that they must not exceed the stated word limits.
APPLICANTS SHOULD COMPLETE EITHER PART 14.1 or 14.2
3.a. An applicant who, in October 2009, will be new to the doctoral programme should
complete the following:
3.a.i Description of topic to include, for example, aims and objectives and central research
questions (no more than 600 words).
3.a.ii Methodology, including for example, investigative and analytic methods and theoretical
frameworks (no more than 600 words).
3.a.iii Research plan to include,for example, a schedule for the completion of tasks/phases of the
project and efficient management and performance of research (no more than 400 words).

3.a.iv Description of the relationship of the project to existing research. Suggest how the
project
will make a new contribution to knowledge. Do not provide bibliographical lists or footnotes
here (no more than 600 words).
3.a.v Description of any specialist knowledge/data required to undertake the project (e.g.
Language competence, technical skills, use of specialist software, etc.). Describe plans for
acquiring this knowledge/data if it is not already in place. Describe how data required for this
project will be accessed (no more than 400 words).
3.a.vi Reason for choosing the doctoral programme in Gender, Culture and Identities for the
project. (no more than 200 words).
3.b. An applicant who is already registered as a doctoral student in one of the participating
universities should complete the following:

An ‘original signed and sealed reference’ is a duly completed reference form bearing the
original signature of the referee. The provision of this reference is an integral part of a fully
completed application and is the sole responsibility of any applicant to this scheme.
Applicants are advised to allow sufficient time for their nominated referee to complete and
return a duly completed official reference form to the applicant in advance of the closing
date.
