Our computer lab has 30 eMacs (all out of warranty) with one color printer. Our Mac COW has 17 (out of 20) working laptops with an airport and a printer. Those laptops are at end of life and are rapidly breaking down. We have a color printer in the library. There is approximately one black and white printer shared among two-three teachers throughout the school with the exception of one pod where there is one black and white printer shared among 8 classrooms. There is also a color printer located in the kindergarten hallway and in the Spanish classroom out in the portables. The entire school needs to be equipped for wireless connectivity. We would like to replace our out-of-warranty eMacs throughout the entire school and make sure that each classroom has 4 working computers. We also have several printers that are over ten years old and need to be replaced. We also would like each classroom equipped with a ceiling-mounted projector as well as a document camera and a laser printer. We also need to replace all of the Special Education PC’s as everyone one of them are out of warranty and at end of life. Campus Tech Plan 2008-2009 5 of 14 Mills Elementary School Department of Instructional Technology Future Vision and Direction Mills faculty will actively seek ways to infuse the curriculum with strategies and activities for the students to improve technical literacy through student lesson assignments; research and data collection: interpretation, analysis, and use of data; and presentation, social, and debate skill development. We want our students to complete their elementary education with a highly-developed life skill of media literacy knowing what data is credible and useful, recognizing bias, and able to present their own viewpoint intelligently, effectively, and well. Understanding and use of technology is crucial to these efforts. Students need to know and use technology as a tool to do research, track data, demonstrate their learning, and measure the quality and progress of their work. Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Technology Applications for Kindergarten through 5th grade progressively defines expectations for teaching and learning and is predicated on the expectations that teachers have the foundational knowledge to teach these skills and that each school has the requisite equipment available for use.
