Campus Tech Support
Clayton does not have a paid campus tech despite having 1000 students this year. The Co-ITRCs and other volunteer teachers are our
only source of campus technology troubleshooting and support. Each teacher/staff member is responsible for reporting his/her own
issues by completing a Heat Ticket for any concern needing attention. Our PTA will not support a campus tech position and our
overcrowding issues have not allowed us to fund this much needed position. We rely solely on the district techs to help maintain
computer lab, mobile carts and classroom computers. The lack of a designated paid campus tech results in delays in getting issues
reported (Heat Tickets) with correct, complete information and within a timely basis. Other concerns are lack of accountability, time
to place Heat Tickets (can only be done on campus) and follow-through. Additionally, delays exist for campus-wide issues and
software purchases. The system requires us to submit a Heat Ticket for new software purchases. An individual Heat Ticket is
required for each software install on every individual computer instead of pushing out to campus. An example, Comic Life was
purchased a year ago and still is not on the majority of the campus computers, including the lab, library and mobile carts. The campus
has a good relationship with Tech Support and appreciates all efforts extended on our behalf. In addition to knowledgeable support
staff, technology funds were not given this year (formerly $4/student). These funds are needed for replacement headphones, laptop
batteries for mobile carts (past 1½ years), ink cartridges, etc.
Future Vision and Direction
Our campus has experienced fast growth since we opened in August 2006. We have almost doubled in size in the mere three years we
have been open. In addition to overcrowding (Clayton will be sending six Kindergarten classes to Kiker this year), Clayton has had to
make some difficult choices including the loss of our computer lab to a Special Area classroom last year. We were able to reestablish
the computer lab this year and hope it will remain a dedicated space readily available to all grade levels for whole class technology
learning. With any additional growth, we are at high risk of losing it again next year because we are in a community that is still
building houses. Additionally, we’ve had to reduce the number of student desktops in each classroom from 6 to 4 in order to
accommodate the extra classrooms. Long term, we would like to secure funding for a part-time or full-time computer teacher on
campus to provide continuity of skills among grade-levels and be a supportive facilitator of technology learning for classroom teachers
and students with technology applications and resources. Teachers will be using their laptops on a regular basis during instruction, in
meetings and trainings. Clayton would like to develop and maintain a growing Technology Professional Learning Community within
our own campus. This TPLC will facilitate planning, collaboration and trainings (along with Campus IT and Campus Tech Cadre)
within the Clayton community, school district and beyond. Classrooms will have integrated multimedia systems with document
cameras and other interactive tools. The KCARD broadcasts will increase from twice weekly to four times weekly. Broadcasts will

Technology
go from low-tech to high-tech,
utilizing graphics, video, multiple cameras and SKYPE on a regular basis. The KCARD wiki will be
linked from the school webpage. Teachers will regularly use their teacher web sites and other online tools to keep parents and students
informed. Parents will regularly access the online gradebook and other resources for information about their child.
Campus Improvement Plan Alignment
One of our goals this year is for all teachers K-5 to integrate technology within a lesson plan at least once every nine weeks.
This aligns with our goal of promoting and accelerating student achievement through the delivery of scientific research based rigorous
and enriched curriculum in reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science by highly qualified staff.
