Future You Scholarships for entry to UCD in September 2016
UCD Access & Lifelong Learning is delighted to announce at least three scholarships to incoming Stage
One UCD students who participated in the Future You Mentoring Programme while at school. The Future
You Mentoring Programme works in conjunction with Access & Lifelong Learning link schools in
Ballyfermot, Tallaght, Crumlin and Clondalkin. It offers structured mentoring to students in Fifth Year
traditional Leaving Certificate classes and continues to support them through their Sixth Year.

Making an Application
Who is eligible to apply?
The Scholarships will target highly motivated students who participated in Future You Mentoring and who
successfully gain entry to UCD. It will particularly look to support those who face significant barriers to
participation at Third Level due to educational disadvantage.
How will candidates be selected?
To qualify for consideration candidates must provide evidence of the following:
1. The existence of a significant financial barrier preventing the realisation of the candidate’s
potential through education.
2. The existence of other obstacles(s) to progression such as social/educational disadvantage,
disability and/or adverse life circumstances.
3. Proven academic ability and potential.
4. Be highly motivated and committed to pursuing a university education.
5. Possess the qualities to be a role model to others facing similar barriers.
Based on these selection criteria, a shortlist of candidates will be drawn up. Shortlisted candidates will be
interviewed by staff from UCD Access & Lifelong Learning. Interviews will take place in July 2016.
Selection and notification:
Applicants will be shortlisted based on their application and invited for interview in UCD. Successful
applicants will initially be offered a conditional Scholarship until there is confirmation that they have been
offered, and have accepted a CAO place, and will study in UCD. The Scholarships will only be awarded
to students who undertake full-time undergraduate programmes in UCD.
What supports are available to UCD Future You Scholars?


A bursary of €1500 for each year of study to assist with books, travel, contribute to bills (e.g.
broadband and groceries) at home.
Access & Lifelong Learning Centre supports e.g. Peer Mentoring, Student Adviser, Access &
Lifelong Learning Orientation, leadership development, volunteering opportunities.
