Numerator
Denominator
Activity:
All of the students will start out in the “denominator” section and each one has a fraction flash card.
Their goal is to work their way up to become a “Fraction Wizard”. Within the “Denominator” section,
they play a partner in one game of “Ready, Set, Show Your Fraction”.
Directions for “Ready, Set, Show Your Fraction”:
Have the teams of two hold their fraction card behind their own backs and face each other. Teams count
to three together and then on three, each child shows their fraction card. The object is to say the correct
answer before the other team member by saying which fraction is greater than or equal to the other one.
The winner moves to the next section (numerator section) and the person who loses stays in the
“denominator” section. If they win in the “Numerator” section, they become a “Fraction Wizard” until
they lose to another “Wizard”. Once they lose in the Wizard section, they go back one section to
become a “Numerator” again.
Variations:
 To modify game, fractions can be simplified or made more challenging. Using common
denominators can simplify the game.
 If fraction flash cards are not available, students can make them before playing the game.
 To make the game more aerobic, have the students jump in place. On the 4th jump they flash
their card. The one with the correct answer gets to move up.
Review Questions:
