From the Greatest Generation to the Latest Generation,
Metz Elementary Supports Our Veterans!
On November 9th, Metz Elementary students welcomed over thirty local
veterans to their campus to honor them and to hear the stories of their
past. Organized by Jennifer Atkinson, 1st grade teacher at Metz, local
area veterans and active-duty members of our military were invited to
Metz’ Take a Veteran to School Day. Students completed research
prior to the visit, and welcomed the veteran’s with full pomp and
circumstance in a school-wide assembly. Valerie Galbraith, Principal of
Metz Elementary, honored a veteran who is very special to her—her
husband Billy Joe Galbraith.
Many children invited a parent, grandparent,
or great-grandparent who is a veteran.
Each classroom received a
special visit from at least
one veteran who spoke to
the individual classes and
answered student
questions.
