Week 35 Pre-Kindergarten P.E. IPG’s Guideline PK/PHD: 2A Begins to throw or kick an object in a particular direction. Matrix #136 Kicking Week # 35 Kicking a Stationary Ball Card # 39 Description Self – Kick, chase, and kick – try right leg and left. Direct ball (soccer dribble) on pathways – use cones or lines in gym or parking lot. Use cones to create an obstacle course for dribbling through. Pair – Kick to partner. Kick to partner between tow cones. Group – Play circle soccer: Students divide into 2 teams occupying each half of a circle. Object is to kick the ball out of the opponent’s half of circle to gain a point. Players will stop the ball before kicking it back across the circle. Equipment Foam balls Cones Day 1 Place 8 cones or spot markers in a straight line across the playing area. Have 1 student stand on or next to the marker. Have another student stand behind each student. You should have 8 lines with 2-3 students in each line depending on your numbers. (With 20 or more kids, form 10 lines) The first student in each line should have a ball. On the start signal, all students (with a ball) kick the ball straight out in front of them as far as they can. After all of the balls have been kicked, say, “go” and have the students run and pick up their ball and bring it back and place it on or beside the marker. The next person places the ball on the ground and waits for the signal to kick. All students must kick and chase on command to ensure proper safety. Use a larger ball to practice beginning kicking. As students become proficient, change the type and size of the ball that they are kicking. (playground ball, softi ball, tennis ball, etc.) If students are continuing to progress (the ball is being kicked forward in a straight line each time), have the students run to get the ball as soon as they roll it and the next person can roll immediately. Make sure that the students are using both feet to kick. Day 2 Place 8 cones or spot markers in a straight line across the playing area. Have 1-2 students stand behind each cone. Set out 3 cones about 10’ apart in front of each cone. Using their feet, have the students roll a ball (soccer dribble) from the starting line to the cone and then back again. The students will need to keep the ball in their possession, as it is rolled/ dribbled. (it will be more of a pushing motion than a kicking motion) The next person in line may then take a turn. The students may move as fast as they can as long as they maintain possession of the ball. Discourage racing between the lines. Day 3 Place 8 cones or spot markers in a straight line in the playing area. Place a second marker across from the first about 10’ apart. Have one student stand on one marker and a partner stand on the other. Have students kick a ball back and forth to one another. Students should stop the ball with their hands before kicking it back to their partner. Encourage accuracy and emphasize following through with the foot toward their partner. Day 4 Review kicking from previous days. Have 2 students stand behind each marker. Place a bowling pin across from them on a marker about 15’ away. On the start signal, have the first student kick the ball toward the pin trying to knock it over. The kicker should chase the ball, set up the pin, and then bring the ball back to their partner to kick. This can be done to a signal first until the students understand the rotation. As they become proficient, they can kick and chase on their own. Remind students to watch where they are going as they chase their ball. © Austin Independent School District SportFun A Module of the Sport For All Program Week 35 Pre-Kindergarten P.E. IPG’s Day 5 Give each student a ball and have them scatter in general space. Students should place their balls on the ground and begin dribbling the ball around the playing area. As the students near another person, they may kick their ball toward another student’s ball and try to bump it. Students must then chase their balls and begin dribbling again. Have students count the number of times that they can bump another person’s ball with their ball. Make sure that the students are only kicking toward another person’s ball and not kicking at the person. Students must watch where they are going as they are dribbling and kicking. Teacher Notes Control the ball Be aware of others. Watch where the foot touches the ball. (the foot should contact the ball in the middle of the back to ensure that the ball will roll straight) Wait until the ball is stationary before kicking. © Austin Independent School District SportFun A Module of the Sport For All Program
