Week 22 Pre-Kindergarten P.E. IPG’s Guideline None Matrix #120 Throwing: Underhand Roll Week Card #22 #27 Steering Description Spot markers or cones set out in a line. Start at one end of the line and steer a ball in and out of the markers to the end. Steer first with your hands, and then progress to steering with feet or a stick. Equipment Spot markers, cones, paddles, and balls of different sizes, textures, and weights Day 1 Place 8 cones in a straight line across the playing area. Have 1-2 students stand behind each cone. Set out 3 cones about 10’ apart in front of each cone. Have the first students in each line roll a ball with their hands from the starting line to the cone and then back again. The students will need to keep the ball in their possession as it is rolled. (it will be more of a push than a roll) The next person in line may then take a turn. The students may move as fast as they can as long as they maintain possession of the ball. Discourage racing between the lines. Day 2 Review Day 1. Using a paddle, have the students roll a ball from the starting line to the cone and then back again. The students will need to keep the ball in their possession as it is rolled. (it will be more of a pushing motion than a striking motion) The next person in line may then take a turn. The students may move as fast as they can as long as they maintain possession of the ball. Discourage racing between the lines. Day 3 Review the previous days. Using their feet, have the students roll a ball (soccer dribble) from the starting line to the cone and then back again. The students will need to keep the ball in their possession, as it is rolled/ dribbled. (it will be more of a pushing motion than a kicking motion) The next person in line may then take a turn. The students may move as fast as they can as long as they maintain possession of the ball. Discourage racing between the lines. Day 4 Review the previous days. Set out 3 cones about 10’ apart in front of each cone. On the start signal, have the first student walk and roll a ball with their hands in a zig-zag pattern through each cone and then back to the starting line. The next students can then take a turn. The second time through, the students will use a paddle to move the ball. Repeat. Day 5 Review the previous days. Set out 3 cones about 10’ apart in front of each cone. On the start signal, have the first student walk and roll a ball with their feet (soccer dribble) in a zig-zag pattern through each cone and then dribble back to the starting line. The next students can then take a turn. Repeat. As the students become proficient, they can increase their speed. Teacher Notes If using more than one course, make sure your students are all moving in the same direction and do not run into one another’s games. If using one course, have your students go in one direction only; the next student starts when the student in front has completed the course. Remind students to keep the ball in their possession at all times. That means that it should be close to them. If your students cannot control the ball and are chasing it, then give them something that slides and does not roll (puck or beanbag). © Austin Independent School District SportFun A Module of the Sport For All Program
