Twist your resume with 5 essential skills
(Ahrif Sarumi)
How do you market yourself on a
piece of paper some would ask? How
can that dream job be that much closer to
your reach than you really know? Well
it’s all in the way you write your resume
for future employers. As Thomas Harvey
states no matter where you go or where
you may apply you will always need a
resume to show your past and present
skills. Employers rely on this
information to decide who is the best
and
worst
candidate.
Providing
conscience and key words can really set
you apart form the numerous stacks of
resumes. According to research from
TheLadders, an online job-matching
service, recruiters only review a resume
6 seconds by doing an “eye tracking”
method which analyzes how long thirty
professional recruiters reviewed
candidate profiles and resumes, and
what those recruiters focused on.

As Josh Sanburn states although
people may think bullet points and
colors helps make you stand out on a
resume, it actually distracts the
employers from really engaging in your
core points of skills.
Those minutes that human resources
looks at your resume, you will be able to
play a cool trick on them that will have
them not only engaged but mesmerized
at what a great talent and asset you
would be for the company. Researcher
Stephen B. Knouse states that a resume
well written is the single most important
component of the selection process for
gaining that new desired job. You will
have the possibility to turn the tables
around in your favor. The corporation
will be asking you to please consider
them for employment?
resume into five important aspects of
narrowing the focus on your work with
the following tips: the impacts you made
at work, how well you work in a team, if

There are many different varieties of
how to construct a resume but ased upon
my research Lily Zhang (2014) makes
the process easy and understandable. It
all starts with the way you express
yourself on the one piece of paper. She
states that there are five essential tips to
revamp your resume from old to brand
new. She adopted her ideas from Yana
Park who states the format that author
Lily Zhang follows is a “hybrid” resume
that has the best of both worlds
combining both chronological and
functional format. Lily Zhang breaks the
1. Use and Show:
Impact
Example: Developed a new app to make
finding restaurants. The fan base grew
to 19 million followers.
In order portray impact it would be
helpful to add certain key words such as
a significant number you are affecting by
your work or a different manner you
created to approach work than other
employees to make you stand-out.
2. Use and Show:
Teamwork
Example: Joined a volunteer committee
of 7 co-workers that did research on the
affect of student and work life.
Identifying that you were great at
teamwork would help if you would
detail the number of people you worked
with and how long you got along with
those co-workers.
3. Use and Show:
Effective Communication
Example: Developed a rating of work
tasks for managers.
To illustrate how you were an effective
communicator use ways in which you
helped the flow of communication
through employees or managers.
4. Use and Show:
An Ability to work Independently
Example: I was assigned to personally
go to each department and teach new
procedures and regulations.
To point out ability to work
independently show a time when you
worked on a project alone and made a
great impact.
5. Use and Show:
Motivation
Example: After working for the company
as barista for 6 months I was promoted
to shift manager.
To demonstrate motivation write about a
time you decided to do an assignment
that took personal effort and risk but you
mastered it and overcame the challenge.
The effort in resume writing is all in
the way you express and depict youself
to future candidates. After the employers
have gone through your detailed layout
of the five key aspects they will be sure
to select you as a new hire. Creating
value for yourself and the company is
essential to be a desired nominee. As
Albert Einstein illustrated “try not to
become a man of success, but rather try
to become a man of value.”
