Comparative
- For one syllable adjectives we add the syllable “er” to them followed
by than.
eg.
1.My house is bigger than yours.
2.Ahmad made his painting prettier than yours.
- For adjectives consisting of more than one syllable we use the
expression “more adj, adv than”
eg.
- My idea is more complicated than yours.
- Ali’s suit is more expensive than mine.
P.S.
Spelling rules:
- For one syllable adjectives ended in single consonant before a single
vowel we double the last consonant and add ‘er’. ‘bigger’
- For adjectives containing of more than one syllable ending with ‘y’, we
change the ‘y’ to ‘i’ and add ‘er’.
Superlative
• The superlative is used to say what thing or
person has the most of a particular quality
within a group or of its kind.
• It is formed by adding the before the one
syllable adjective and est to the adjective.
• Ex. “Ahmad is the tallest”
• For two syllables adjectives we add the most
before the adjective.
• Ex. “Ahmad is the most intelligent”
