Introduction to Writing

Paragraph: is a piece of writing that talks about one idea.

Writing should be done in 3 stages :
1. Prewriting: Organize your thoughts into points.
2. Writing: Start writing based on the list of ideas.
3. Post writing: Read your composition as you read it for the first time and check it
for all kinds of mistakes i.e. (spilling, grammar, cohesion)
Brainstorming List:
Ex. – how the sport is being played.

- The history of the sport.
 When it was started.
 Changes through history
- Why do I love this sport?
 Competition.
 Team spirit.
 Healthy
 It’s the most popular sport in my society
The Format of the paragraph:

Indent the first sentence.
Write the rest of the sentences to the end of the page.
Try to end the last sentence before the end of the page.
The new paragraph should start on a new line.
Ex:
Football, The Love of My Life
Saudis consider football the mother of sports. Therefore, as a Saudi, I grew to
love this sport. So, now football is my favorite sport for many reasons.
The (history of this sport) is an interesting one with so many ups and downs. In
1940 the world was surprised by the birth of a new sport which is football. At its
beginning it was a unknown sport. 1945 it became the most popular sport in England.
1950 rules were established to this sport by an international organization called the
FIFA. Soon after and for many reasons it became the most popular sport through out
the world.
