November 23, 2010 To: College Associate Deans, Associate University Librarian, Director of the Honors College From: Office of Undergraduate Studies Subject: Curriculum Consultation Response Procedure and Form Procedure: As part of the campus’s effort to move toward a curricular process that reduces the amount of paper, we request that the administrative units responsible for submitting curricular proposals to the Office of Undergraduate Studies implement the following procedure for curriculum consultation. When a curricular proposal is submitted by a department or program to their respective administrative unit, the appropriate administrator of that unit will forward the proposal electronically to the Associate Deans, the Associate University Librarian, and the Director of the Honors College. Those individuals will communicate to the initiating administrative unit the names of any department(s) or programs in their college or unit with whom the proposers must consult before this proposal is approved in the initiating unit. If no consultation in their administrative unit is needed, then that assessment would be communicated to the initiating administrator. If consultation is required, the administrator of the initiating unit will send the proposal electronically to the departments and programs with whom it is asked to consult. If any objections are raised, an attempt to negotiate the differences should be made before approval is given by the initiating administrative unit. Whatever the outcome of these negotiations, the record of consultation form below and any reports or objections become parts of the proposal forwarded to the Executive Secretary of the Educational Policy Committee should the proposal be approved by the curriculum committee of the initiating administrative unit. Form: Please use the consultation form on the following page to record the responses of colleges, divisions, schools, departments, programs, and the library to any course or program curricular proposals that your administrative unit is submitting (you may add rows as necessary) and attach the completed form to the appropriate proposal. If all the responses to a related set of proposals are identical, you may report the results on a single form, and then attach a copy of that completed form to each proposal that is being submitted. If any of these administrative units have indicated they have objections or desire that further consultation occur on a particular proposal, on the consultation form to be submitted for that proposal, indicate their responses and attach any statements of concern or objections. 11-23-10 Curricular Proposal Consultation Response Record Name of Department or Program Submitting the Proposal:___________________________ Name of Course, Degree Program, Option, Minor, Certificate on Proposal: ______________________________________________________________________________ Date Consultation was Requested: ________________________________________________ College, Division, School, Department, Program, Library No Objections (NO) No Response (NR) Concerns or Objections (see attached) Resolved (Y/N) Arts and Letters Business and Economics Education Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology Health and Human Services Natural and Social Sciences Honors College Library Undergraduate Studies Graduate Studies 11-23-10
