1 ASG Regular Meeting Minutes February 24, 2016 ASSOCIATED STUDENT GOVERNMENT REGULAR MEETING MINUTES 1. CALL TO ORDER a. Meeting called to order at 1:08 pm b. Roll Call i. Absent: Delegates: Noriega c. President Spence welcomed all in attendance d. Pledge of Allegiance led by Senator Wildshut 2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS a. Trevor Myrus is working on a new Club for students with disabilities. Last time Campus had one was fifteen years ago. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES a. Regular ASG Meeting Wednesday February 17th, 2016 Without objection postponed until next week by President Spence. 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS a. Updating of ASG Electronic Media: Will be continuously worked on to ensure that information presented is accurate and current. Senator Hopp will be helping Senator Hinch in related to social media. ASG Regular Meeting Minutes 2 February 24, 2016 b. Campus statistics and opinions: President Spence considers taking this off the agenda at the time, and focus much more on DC. c. ASG 2016-2017 Budget: Senator Gutierrez shares four proposal budgets. When required money was deducted from ASG events, rather than ICC. A reading of all four budgets is carried collectively. Advisor Kretchman proposes having the first budget as the official one, and the other three as contingency budgets. Motion: Move to approve ASG 2016-2017 budget. (Caldwell/Contreras/C/U) Motion: Move to approve the contingency ASG 2016-2017 budgets. (Hopp/Hinch/C/U) Advisor Titus suggests typing in information to clarify contingency budgets. 5. NEW BUSINESS a. Presentation-High Tech= Higher Pay Event at SDSU President Spence explains that the event coordinator fell ill, reason for which they had to cancel the event. b. ASG Committee Vacancies Elections committee members must not be looking to transfer or planning to run for an executive officer. Currently Prefontaine and Gutierrez are the two members, there is another member required. As a board member, they should not be endorsing an individual candidate. President Spence appoints Senator Hinch for Election Committee. Zach Gutierrez is eth Chairperson designated for the elections committee. PPER requires a new member. Senator Caldwell enrolls himself in it. CWA members Senators Wildschut, Gutierrez, Hinch and Caldwell. c. Diversity Day Event Update Chairperson Senator Hinch shares that the food for the day of the event has already been ordered. During the day attendance counts as office hours. d. Business Cards Senator Gutierrez has already got the information to order them. e. ASG Polos President Spence states that he has been unable to find a shirt on any website. Senators who have extra polos should bring them in. Advisor Titus states there are some contacts if interested. ASG Regular Meeting Minutes 3 February 24, 2016 f. Monetary Request - $50 for ASG nametags from ASG reserve President Spence explains that monetary request is in order to have name badges to use fro conferences and on Campus. Each nametag is about $3. They are magnetic so they do not tear the clothes. Motion: Move to approve Monetary Request - $50 for ASG nametags from ASG reserve. (Gutierrez/Hopp/C/U) 6. BOARD APPOINTMENTS AND NOMINATIONS a. Interview For Senate Position - None b. Interview for Delegate Position - None c. Shared Governance Councils and Committees – i. Shared Governance Rundown Next meeting to take place on March 17, from 3:30 to 5:30 Attending councils is the higher priority. President Spence states that people must be attending their meetings. Advisor Titus reminds that people should be attending meetings and reporting back at the ASG President Spence appoints Senator Velasquez to the Faculty Senate and Senator Mayorga to SSPC. ii. Student Success and Equity 7. VACANCIES/RESIGNATIONS a. Senate: We currently have six (6) Senate seats available. b. Delegates: We currently have four (4) positions for delegates. 8. ABSENCES AND DISCIPLINARY ACTION Senator Wilson has not sent any type of explanation. This is his third consecutive absence, he will contacted. 9. OFFICIAL REPORTS a. Executive Reports- Four (4) Minutes Each i. President Spence Looked over Minutes in order to establish moment when people were elected. August 26, 2015: Senator Caldwell, Vice president Prefontaine, Senator Hinch, Senator Gutierrez, Senator Contreras. August 29, 2015: President Spence, Delegate Nagtalon. January 20, 2016: Senator Hopp February 3: Senator Velasquez, Delegate Aguilar. February 10: Delegate Noriega, Senator Mayorga, Senator Wildschut. ASG Regular Meeting Minutes 4 February 24, 2016 March in March has been cancelled. Overview Region X Facebook page. Reminds Senators to turn in SS rep reports by Friday. Permanent point of privilege granted to Delegate Aguilar at 2:21 ii. Vice President Prefontaine Trevor Myrus shared information on a new Club idea for Disabled students. He is looking forward to it. It is well planned. There are many community colleges having Senators specifically assigned to various departments of the College. It would be interesting to overview that idea. b. Senator Reports- Four (4) Minutes Each i. Lazzaric CaldwellCurrently updating Committees information. Vice President Prefontaine has sent office hours that used to be Senator’s Baugh. Still looking for people interested in attending the Sun God Festival which is on April 30th. Armando ContrerasAttended last week the FRC Committee. They did a request for a memorial tree in honor of the part time employee which passed out last December. Landscaping on the CHDV is being considered. They are still working on the gender neutral restrooms. Distinction for faculty and staff is being worked on. Thomas HinchNothing to report Zach GutierrezAccreditation Committee will meet on February 26th from 11:00 to 12:00, room AA140. Chris Hopp Is working with Senator Hinch helping out with Social Media. Nedy Velasquez – Points out that banners for the Blood donation campaign were very effective. Cesar Mayorga – ASG Regular Meeting Minutes 5 February 24, 2016 Was appointed today to the SSPC Committee. In two weeks he will come back with the report. Is unclear when the SSE gets together. Senator Caldwel:00 to 11:00. viii. Laura Wildschut – Trying to find information regarding the time and day when regulation Committee meets. There was no update information. Vice President Prefontaine joins the meeting at 2:32 c. Delegate Reports- Four (4) Minutes Each i. Michael Nagtalon- Budget Committee was cancelled. Is currently considering on how to make Technology as a mean of doing things better at Campus. ii. David Aguilar – Absent at the time of the report iii. Eric Noriega – Absent at the time of the report d. Advisor Reports- Seven (7) Minutes Each i. Lindsay Kretchmana. Next Thursday from 12:30 to 2:00 is the Comet Leadership Series from 12:30 to 2:00. It is at the Library 104 or 109. b. ASG Meeting is coming up in Escondido on March 9th . c. ASG Comet Hour on Monday. Students asked if they could receive more information regarding Tobacco policy. Up to the date nothing has been sent to students. Senator Caldwell reminds that the actual Smoking policy is not updated in the website. Advisor Titus reminds people that all policies should be found at the Governing Board Webpage, so when they are not updated, it is important to inform. d. Currently working with a new Committee. Dreamers Workshop. The DI group is trying to get a Club. ii. Sherry Titus- reminds attendants about the following: a. Bring any items and she will try to facilitate to get some resolution. For instance ASG has not taken a position on gender neutral bathrooms, it is important that Senator Contreras brings information the ASG to be discussed, so when reading is done at the Committee, he may share what the ASG considers about such topic. Same happens with Smoking fines. b. There is more willingness on the ASG members to take part in the different Committees. c. Retreat was well done. ASG Regular Meeting Minutes 6 February 24, 2016 d. Informs attendants to DC, that they have granted permission to enter the White House. e. Committee Reports- Four (4) Minutes Meeting came to an end before considering such reports. i. ICC- Parking and drawing took place, the winner was Emmi Bissel from GWS. Sandwich board regulations were considered. The proposal of having two extra Sandwich Board available to the Club having and event was considered. This will be brought in a next meeting. They are currently hiring students for part tiem positions as Student Ambassadors. ii. PPER- Meeting was done with Senator Hopp, Senator Gutierrez and Vice President Prefontaine. They are dividing articles in three separate groups, trying to get things clear and words defined when necessary. iii. LEAC- Agenda was sent to President Spence. The idea is to work on March 4 from 12:00 to 2:00. President Spence, Senator Gutierrez and Delegate Aguilar are to come in and give presentations. iv. CWA- Still unable to show paid ordered for the flash drives requested by ASG. Company keeps calling and requesting them. v. Elections – New chair has been elected. He will begin work on it. They will have the first Candidate meeting today. They are to establish the next dates, and how to get everyone on the committee to be there. Have considered some publicity strategies through posters, The Telescope, Social Media. They are considering as well Classroom presentations. 10. REQUESTS FOR REPORTS a.
