Definition of Disablement
• It is a term that refers to the impact(s) and
functional consequences of acute or chronic
conditions, such as disease, injury, and
congenital or developmental abnormalities, on
specific body systems that affect basic human
performance and an individual’s ability to meet
necessary, customary, expected, and desired
societal functions and roles.
Pathology
Alteration of anatomy or physiology due to disease or injury.
Impairments
Alterations in anatomic, physiologic, or psychologic structures or
functions as the result of some underlying pathology.
Functional Limitation
Restriction in the ability to perform an activity in an efficient,
typically expected, or competent manner.
Disability
Inability to perform activities required for self-care, home, work, or
community roles.
