MINUTES Department of Marketing November 17, 2014 Conference Room HH 3304 Present: Barger, Chennamaneni, Dahl, DeGraff, Hsu, Kopf, Peltier, Roy, Scovotti, Zhao Excused: Boostrom, Cummins Dr. Carol Scovotti called meeting to order at 3:45. Minutes approved by Hsu, seconded by Dahl. Announcements: Barger got approval for all marketing curriculum changes. Approval moving to UCC later this semester. Peltier announced changes to the 60 required credits for business degree. SO, there are 6 more credits for students to take marketing classes starting in the fall of 2015. Christmas party suggestion by Peltier. He will send out possible dates/places to department. Committee reports: Kopf announced that Diversity Forum events were well attended and CoBE was happy with the awareness of the importance and timeliness of this event. Chennamaneni announced that 2015 DBA recruitment is under way – goal would be to have 100 initial applications (maximum) for 2015/2016. Hsu is working on Purple Book summaries. Scovotti is asking faculty and staff for class observation times for her to visit in the spring semester of 2015. Scovotti also encouraged department members to participate in the fall “Great Case Debate.” Barger brought up Faculty Senate discussions. Student funds may begin to be used to fund a possible 3D printer. CoBE Dean selection sessions are being used to decide the last 4 applications for CoBE. CV’s for final four applicants can be found at http://www.uww.edu/cobe/deansearch/finalists Peltier announced that “Negotiation” will be taught 2 sessions every academic year. Scovotti talked about new Grad Council that comprises 25 people. The first order of business is to try to distinguish how graduate programs are different than undergraduate programs. A consultant came in to help to assess this. Results of the “criteria for graduate-level coursework and “proposed comprehensive learning outcomes for master’s level education – 2014” to address outcomes for philosophical and assessable elements of the UWW graduate program. Copies of resulting documents were distributed to the department reviewed documents: A suggestion was proposed by Peltier to simplify the document by adding a heading of “graduate course will” and then list the outcomes with less redundancies. Other suggestions were to think about: 1) Is this different? How? Why? Words such as “complex” should be used 2) On #2 on” Criteria for Graduate-Level Coursework” try to add phrases like “integrated thinking, ”innovation” as it would be applicable for all colleges 3) Need to think about LEAP initiatives and HLC initiatives 4) Put more adjectives that position graduate courses as different such as the words “analyze” “advanced” “complex” 5) #4 on “Criteria for Graduate-Level Coursework” needs to be revised to compare to undergraduate work and move to #1 on the document 6) Should the word “diversity” be in #6 on “Criteria for Graduate-Level Coursework?” Only other discussion was on #9 and how classes are distinguished from each other –the group determined that this was not an issue. Grad Studies meets on Thursday November 20th. Other business Kopf talked about assessment on oral communications and handed out marketing communication rubric to have guest speakers to give feedback in Capstone class starting this semester. Various faculty who have group projects will also assess three presentations using this rubric this semester. Scovotti moved and Chennamaneni seconded to end meeting. Meeting adjourned at 4:38.
