Resolution: Faculty Senate endorsement of Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating
System (STARS) assessment
WHEREAS, educating our students about sustainability is important across the university
curriculum;
WHEREAS, sustainability is an important component of several LEAP essential learning
outcomes including civic knowledge and engagement and active involvement in realworld challenges;

WHEREAS, sustainability is a significant priority for our campus through the establishment
of the Sustainability Council, our signing of the Presidents Climate Commitment, and our
membership in the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher
Education’s (AASHE);
WHEREAS, STARS is a broadly utilized and comprehensive assessment of a university’s
sustainability initiatives across operations, residential life, and curriculum;
THEREFORE, be it resolved that, the Faculty Senate endorse an initiative to undertake a
STARS assessment of our campus and apply for a formal rating.

1.Faculty Senate: Meetings begin at 2:15 p.m. Faculty Senate meetings continue until business is finished,

2.Faculty Senate Executive Committee: Meetings of the Executive Committee are typically at 2:15 on
