Industrial Engineer / Improvement Leader
Summary
The Industrial Engineer / Improvement Leader will be responsible for increasing productivity,
maximizing efficiency, and managing human capital more effectively. They will provide
expertise in leading LEAN initiatives, identifying process improvement opportunities,
quantifying results and trends, and directing teams to achieve desired results. They will work
closely with all levels of management and employees to support the analysis, planning, design,
implementation and evaluation of key projects and continuous improvement strategies to help
Schluter Systems, LP. achieve its rapid growth goals.
Primary responsibilities

Working with Executive Leadership (reporting to the VP of Operations) to develop a
strong improvement culture in the company that will reduce non value added waste,
improve customer service and cycle times, and product quality.
• By leading continuous improvement initiatives with the training and application
of Lean Management (Toyota Production System approach). With the application
of, but not limited to:
 5S
 Visual Management
 Leaders Standard Work
 TAKT mgmt.
 TWI
 OEE, TPM, SMED (Changeover reduction)
 Kanban system design
 Process mapping (VSM)
 Supermarket implementation, POU material replenishment
 Work station design
 Standardized work
 Mistake-Proofing
 Problem solving approaches/tools
 (PDCA, DMAIC, 5 Why’s, FMEA, etc.)
 Voice of the customer
• Reducing process variations through the application of Six Sigma and Quality
improvement tools/skills, including but not limited to Six Sigma Project
management, SPC, Process Capability, Statistics, FMEA, DOE
• Create collaborative and autonomous teams focused on self-directed
understanding and improving their processes.
• Determine and plan facilities expansions/improvements to meet the needs of
production and warehouse, pick/pack.
• Plan and implement changes to product distribution strategies, production floor
layout to improve product flow and efficiency.


Implement ergonomic improvements for manual assembly. Provide input
on the means of assembly (manufacturing) regarding the facilities,
equipment and tooling requirements for each product.
Identify production problems and develop corrections and improvements
to plant efficiency, quality and safety.
Education / Experience Requirements


BS in Industrial Engineering or equivalent
 5 years’ experience working in Manufacturing and Warehouse environment.
 Experienced Lean Leader and practitioner in warehouse and manufacturing.
• Proven track record in developing a Lean Continuous Improvement culture and
practices resulting in significant improvements.
• Toyota Production System (TPS) experience preferred
 Superb people skills and ability to work, teach, motivate and shape people at all positions
(hourly to executive)
• Team Development and people development experience
• Observe, listen and ask questions to understand the situation / problems and be
supportive and non-judgmental at all times
• Lead by example – “Walk the talk.” ensuring that trainees develop personal
competencies and avoid a dependency upon the coach.
 Strong communication and organizational skills
 Strong Problem solving and root cause decision making experience required
Strong computer, analytical and statistical skills (Minitab). Ability to use data to align and
educate organization.
