S.U.R.V.I.V.O.R. “Studying Survival Guide” S- Start early (The earlier you start, the more time to space out your studying) U- Understand all the information about the final (Make sure you know what you’ll be tested on exactly, make sure you have all the materials you will need to take the test, and make sure you know the format) R- Routine (Use your time management skills to map out specific study times and establish a routine) V- Vanish from distraction (find a space beyond your room where you can work free of distraction) I- Immerse yourself in your studies (Concentrate on studying, but in intervals of 30-40 minutes maximum, taking brief breaks of 3-5 minutes) V- Vow to get some sleep (Sleep helps to rejuvenate your body and helps you to focus more clearly. Bottom line… you can do everything right in your study preparation, but if you are sleep deprived it can easily be a moot point) O- Omit cramming right before the test (Cramming right before adds to confusion during the test) R- Review the test (Before you begin, skim the test and note the point distribution- if the points are all equal keep moving if you get stuck on one question; If not, focus on the sections that are weighted the heaviest) Discovery Program/New Student Programs http://discovery.binghamton.edu CIW Library/Discovery Center Phone: 607.777.5009
