Get in the Zone: Managing Your Time
Time Management is a set of skills, tools, and systems that work together to help you get value out of
your time, through balancing your daily activities with the aim of improving the quality of your life.
Did you know…
 Learning how to manage your time so that you can accomplish what you set out to accomplish is a
skill that will help you throughout life.
 "Attitude is everything" The way you think about things can make all the difference in how you
react to events and reduce stress.
 Procrastination means not managing your time wisely.
 One hour of planning will save 10 hours of doing.
 The most valuable word in our Time Management vocabulary is “No.”
Tips to Remember!
 Have, maintain, and use a planner
 Carry your planner with you so you can write it down at the time
 Break down the tasks
 What has to be done first? When is it due? What is worth more in terms of your grade?
 What is it worth in terms of your personal, educational, or career goals?
 Create a timeline for completing your tasks
 Build rewards into your schedule
 Take time for yourself. Exercise, have fun, have relationships, and sleep
 As you look at how you spend your time, ask yourself if this matches your priorities
 Make a “to do” list. Example: Immediate To Do List
1. write outline for psychology class by Friday
2. do laundry Saturday
3. meet with study group Sunday afternoon
