ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR PERIOD
ALUMNI




Secured three significant pledges in support of the campaign.
Launched the 2004 Alumni Hall of Fame nomination process.
Secured 89 new gifts from 58 graduating students and 31 parents as part of the Commencement
Dedication Program; $1,275 raised supports the Annual Fund.
Hosted 19 alumni volunteers at Welcome Day; assisted hundreds of students.

BOARD GOVERNANCE

Met to identify candidates for 2004-2007 term.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN







Total gifts and pledges as of April 30, 2004 = $8,673,261.
Bausch & Lomb Lobby dedication held April 27th, immediately following their 150th Annual
Shareholder’s Meeting also held at MCC. Jim Ward read tribute plaque which he and President
Flynn presented to Bausch & Lomb CEO Ronald Zarrella. Former Bausch & Lomb scholarship
recipient Christopher House spoke during the ceremony.
Warshof Conference Center dedicated April 29th, with over 100 donors, friends and community
leaders present. Len Redon, President Flynn and Brenda Babitz all paid tribute to Rich Warshof
during the program, noting that this is the first campus facility to be named after an MCC Alumnus.
President Flynn and Vice President Glocker announced the successful partnership with public
and private healthcare providers to expand MCC’s Radiologic Technology program. Commitments
of $598,000 have been secured to support this project scheduled to begin in the fall of 2004.
Selected Telecomp as direct marketing vendor for final phase of campaign. Lead letters and
calling to begin early May and continue through September 1.
Presidential Scholarship for Academic Excellence proposals developed and submitted to the Adler
Foundation, the Bridegestone/Firestone Foundation, the Paul S. Dosberg Foundation and the
Marie C. & Joseph C. Wilson Foundation.
Jim Ward and Arnold Klinsky secured nearly $50,000 in new gifts from the business community.
DONOR RELATIONS


Conducted Donors’ Scholarship Reception with over 150 in attendance.
Additional student thank-you letters to donors.
FINANCE/INVESTMENT/AUDIT COMMITTEES






Approved second quarter financial statements ending February 29, 2004.
Completed financial statements for the seven months ending March 31, 2004.
Transferred monies in investment accounts to achieve target asset allocation.
Investment Committee met and agreed on use of index funds.
Completed Contributed Services (Annual Giving) budget for college.
Made January scholarship transfer.

PLANNED GIVING




Delivered the third issue of Ideas.
Activated the MCC Foundation Planned Giving Committee; welcomed new member Beverly Fox
Schantz
Jeff Cleary designed a benchmarking study to measure the effectiveness of the Planned Giving
Committee efforts.
Tim Reichgott and Howard Konar led efforts to recruit significant financial advisors to serve a
separate advisory committee to provide logistical support, secure seminar speakers and assist in
cultivating other advisors.
PUBLIC RELATIONS











Invitations to SUNY Chancellor events in Washington, D.C. and Florida developed and mailed.
Gold Star Gala “save the date” card and invitations mailed.
Scholarship Open brochure developed.
Spring issue of Foundations produced and mailed.

Nomination of Wayne Gilman for the ESL Jefferson Award submitted.

volunteers via MCC Daily Tribune, Channel 4 and general press release.

Media successes:
- President Flynn interviewed on WXXI’s 1370 Connection regarding “Fighting for College
Funding”; online article also produced on the WXXI Web site (Jan. 23).
- MCC included in coverage of SUNY campaign in “SUNY schools set to up the ante” featured
in the Democrat and Chronicle (March 17).
- Thiem Nursing Scholarships covered in Democrat and Chronicle (Jan. 17); Daily Record (Jan.
23), Perinton-Fairport Post (Jan. 29) and Gates-Chili Post (Feb. 3).
- “Speaking Out” essay by President Flynn on “Private funds will reinforce mission of public
colleges” published in March 23 issue of the Democrat and Chronicle, shortly after Chancellor
King’s announcement.
- MCC Foundation annual report won the “Best of Category in the photography category of the
annual SUNY Council for University Affairs and Development (SUNY/CUAD) Awards for
Excellence competition. The program honors the best advancement work in SUNY.
- Democrat and Chronicle article, “B&L gave Zarrella $1.6 million bonus” (March 26) mentions
the company’s annual shareholders meeting would be held at MCC.
- John Thompson profile included in March 23 issue of SUNY News as part of “Chancellor King
announces $3 Billion 64 Campus Fund Raising Challenge.”
- “20th Annual MCC Foundation Scholarship Open” included in the Rochester Business Journal
golf tournament listing (April 9).
- “Gala dinner, auction to benefit MCC students” appeared in the Democrat and Chronicle
(April 21).

Doctrine; effort also promoted via MCC Daily Tribune (faculty and student versions) and digital

15th Annual Salute to Excellence
 Bausch & Lomb to receive the 2004 Salute to Excellence award.
 To be held on December 9, 2004, with Washington satirist Mark Russell
OBJECTIVES
APRIL 2004 – MAY 2004
ALUMNI




Secure two new campaign pledges from members of the first graduating class.
Establish a reunion planning committee and a founding faculty tribute committee of twenty-five
members.
Announce the plans for a fall weekend to be a reunion of the faculty, staff, administrators and
students from the first MCC campus on Alexander Street.
Welcome and provide 2,400 new alumni with alumni benefits, ribbons in advance of the grad
challenge solicitation seeking their Annual Fund support.
ANNUAL FUND



Continue direct mail and telemarketing phases of Annual Fund 2003-2004.
Concentrate on fulfillment of all pledges.
Work with Board to realize 100% participation.
BOARD GOVERNANCE

Continue process to bring new 2004-2005 directors on board.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN




Begin direct marketing efforts on schedule mid-May.
Receive a minimum of $50,000 to create Presidential Scholarship for Academic Excellence.
Close on 11 pending proposals to business campaign prospects to yield a minimum of $100,000.
Complete a minimum of 12 new solicitations in the business sector.


