According to our records, you have no bumping rights. To have your name placed on the
University Layoff List you will need to provide:



A copy of this letter to the Layoff List Coordinator
Submit an updated application online
Provide a written request to the Layoff List Coordinator requesting your name be

UMD Layoff List Coordinator
Department of Human Resources & Equal Opportunity


Or send an e-mail request to dherstad@d.umn.edu
Your name will remain on the layoff list for a period not to exceed two (2) years or three
(3) years outside of the seven (7) county metropolitan areas, from the effective date of
your layoff. If you decide not to exercise your option to bump, there may be implications
to your eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits. Call your local WorkForce
Center if you have questions (see attached Important Resource Information).
You should be aware of some guidelines during your notice period:
 Once you have provided all the relevant documentation, the Layoff List
Coordinator will attempt to contact you with appropriate vacancies. It is in your
best interest to have your name placed on the layoff list as soon as possible, as
while you are in your notification period you have priority over layoff list
candidates who have already been laid off.

You should also look for vacancies on the UMD Job website at
http://www1.umn.edu/ohr/employment/ for which you do not have rights, but for
which you might be qualified and for which you may have an interest.
You also may call Mary L. Cameron at 726-7912, if you have questions about the layoff
process and bumping rights.
I wish to thank you for your contributions to [Type department name] and I wish you
success in your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
